The gf used to make weekly pilgramages to Border's Bistro for brunch until it closed its doors. Recently, I think I've caught the Sunday brunch bug and while I liked Border's Bistro for the awesome thick cut sandwiches, I thought the ventilation of the place needed improvement. Twice I walked out of the place reeking like a sandwich!
House of Robert Timms has since replaced Border's Bistro and seems to be expanding its coffeeprints quite fast around town.
Cafes are never complete without a cake counter.
How about some bar seats for those who can't do without the morning news.
View from the entrance of the cafe.
For the diehards..the same range is available at supermarkets as well.
More of the packaged love.
How about some mags to while away the waiting time? Gourmet ones no less!
Laminated menus that bring you into the world of confusion...choice begets confusion, always.
Confusing halal signs..?
Sausages and Eggs Croissant ($10.90)
Sesame speckled soft croissant with a yummylicious pan-seared sausage and scrambled eggs. Hearty breakfasts are such major love!
Bolognaise Crisscut Fries ($13.50)
No wonder the portion was huge, the price tag justified it..and it could match a mains portion. The ultimate junkfood treat for me is Carl's Junior's Chilli Cheese Fries for both the spicy punch and crispy fries. Rich minced beef sauce with nacho cheese drizzled is decadence yet the fries could not withstand the sauce...with most ending up soggy.
Caffe Latte ($5.80)
Lovely cafe art was all I can appreciate while the coffee addict thought it was a decent latte.
Chorizo and Bacon Quich ($4.20)
Browsing glass counters is a pet peeve...mainly because my range of choices gets expanded yet another notch. With four types of quiches staring back at you is no simple feat. Opted for chorizo and bacon after much hemming and hawing. Loved the crunchy tart side though the rest of it was memorably eggy-custardy and slightly bland. All I can recall is chorizo falling short of expections after the yummy one in the croissant.
Three Way Toasts ($13.50)
Sauteed Mixed Mushroom, Bratwurst Sausage, Poached Egg with Turkey Ham on Multigrain toasts, served with Baked Tomato
Multi-grain toasts with three different types of toppings.
Egg benedict was tragic with an overcooked egg and bland hollandaise sauce.
Spicy sausage had hints of korean bean sauce, decent but not wow.
Mushroom toast was creamy yet bland once again.
Sticky Date Pudding ($11)
I was supposed to head for the pies which were oh-so-enticing! I can never say no to sticky date pudding the same way I cannot resist dessert or that extra drink at Morton's bar. First glance, I was disappointed. Looked somewhat dry and un-welcoming behind what looked like an upside down muffin.
I take back all the bad things I've ever mouthed about it. The best? I think so. With Marmalade's going down the hill and Cafe Epicurious' with a dry huat kueh consistency, House of Robert Timms wows with a moist spongey sticky date cake drowned in toffee sauce and yes, a lovely scoop of icecream. If only they were vanilla bean speckled but I'm honestly not complaining with such an awesome find!
Lemon Big Baby Budt with Icecream ($8.50)
I expected Budt cake to be just like sponge but this was alot lighter and moist, adored the zesty lemon glaze which was not overempowering. Loved it!
I foresee repeats really soon...too many temptations and best of all, it is not overly packed like P.S. cafe nor overly hyped like Wild Honey. Watch Robert Timms!

ReplyDeletesaw them and NO CREDITS whatsoever, i can't even comment to say they're mine! the trouble they took to grab the photos since I privatize them on flickr!
ReplyDeleteThey probably downloaded the pictures from your blog. Hmm... are you going to do anything about this? It's a compliment nonetheless.
ReplyDelete@ice: not going to "like" them just to comment. ridiculous move. I'm gg to blog about it. =)

Your photos are quite well taken, so not surprised they took them. But they should ask for permission. That's the right way to go about doing this.
