TCC...Surprises.

This is majorly overdue given the onslaught of Europe-related entries that have been scheduled...so here's a review on the tea set I had in May!

TCC and me have been limited to Azuki Red Bean Soy Drink, perhaps I was never adventurous enough to venture beyond that. Or it could be just a mentality that drinks are what they specialise in. Going to TCC for a tiered high tea was super random in fact, it was a timed offer for the selection I had and this same selection is not longer valid for June.

High Tea Set ($12.90)

A dainty looking set arrives as per pictured, would have been ideal if it came with the tiers. Then again, there was not enough to fit the tiers anyway!

Mango Rose Tart, so pretty! Both tart bases were soggy, as if they were outsourced.

Chocolate Chip and Raisin Scone with whipped cream and jam. These were more cake-like than scone.

Savoury toasties that were decent though it would have been better if the bread was crispier.

The usual that I never fail to order. Azuki Freeze, so delicious. Note that this was not part of the High Tea Set, only the daily brew is.

As compared to the previous high tea sets at Sheraton, Mandarin Oriental and Pan Pac, this pales totally in comparison. Not worth the while if I may add, especially when the rest provide so much more value with a slight top up.

Fast forward a couple of weeks...the world cup fever! TCC is one of the many places that offers World Cup screening at a select outlets, simply perfect for group gatherings and forming camps whilst catching the most talked about season of the year.

With the Buy 1 Get 2 Free promo on...it was a sweet sweet deal!

Sea Perch with Wasabi Vinigarette ($20.80)
Wasabi pepper vinigarette, Onion roasted potatoes, brocolli, Baked marinated vine-ripened tomoates

Pleasantly surprised by this, firm crusty fillets with a lovely sauce to go! At least it worked for me, the nostril chilling-tangy sauce that pleased the tongue greatly.

Homely-Style Beef Stew ($20.80)
Braised in tomato, wine and veal, oven baked potatoes

This was "homely" as described, on the bland side and braised too soft. Wish they worked on the flavours though.

Pan-Seared Chicken Breast with Shogayaki Sauce ($18.90)
Shogayaki sauce, mild edadame cream, onion roasted potatoes, spicy lotus root slices, broccolini

Very oriental in taste, the first bite made me think "Char Siew?". Not quite a fan of shogayaki sauce; shoga means ginger...yaki refers to grilled..there was barely a hint of ginger. The chicken was grilled a tad too long making the meat tough. I relished edadame cream and the spicy lotus roots...interesting touch!

Seafood Aglio Olio ($18.80)
Flavoured with chilli and garlic, scallops and prawns

Supposedly a must order for the TCC regular, the pasta was well tossed and lightly flavoured. Decent attempt infact though the same was not to be for scallops and prawns that shrivelled up pathetically after all the pan frying.

Ultimate Apple Indulgence ($7.50)
Warm bread pudding, apple compote, vanilla icecream, home-made vanilla sauce

Strange but I did not mind the soggy bread pudding one bit...it could have been the jawdropping hat trick goals from Higuain that numbed the tastebuds. I like the sour apple compote, gave this dessert an added twist. Not too bad though on normal days, I probably would have dissed this
dessert.

Chocolate Devotion ($7.50)

Another of the must order for the regulars, I actually liked the crunchy canoilli biscuit!

There were attempts at adventurous plating with sprinkling of garlic or dusted herbs...an attempt by TCC to go fine I guess?

Kudos to the team at Circular Road for prompt and attentive service...the beanie cushions were not the best way of rewindling after a long day on heels and in a skirt! Nonetheless, watching soccer in bunches is addictive. :) It is heartening to know the dishes served up do match their descriptions afterall...no mean feat when I have encountered places that over describe. TCC for honest fare and delish drinks, their tea sets still require some tweaking.

  3. Four Season's afternoon tea is at the Lobby Bar. It's a pretty 3-tiered with mini sandwiches, scones & pastries, & refillable too. The last time I went it was a 3-tiered, should be still. Check out the website, there's a sample menu.
