Everything With Fries @ East Coast Road

EverythingWithFries stands out amongst the row of eateries and bars for its whitewashed concept, white tiles, white chairs and tables, a wall length of chalkboard too! It perhaps sticks out like a sore thumb with such modern fittings, I say it feels like you're stepping into a world of pastels. Get greeted by young dudes clad in pink tees, nothing against that but a lightbulb sprang out blinking "Newurbanmale."

The name in itself was well chosen, at least it tickled the interest when it first opened yonks back. I remember furrowing the brows and scrutinising the flyer then.

Something about chalkboards that charms.

The whole setting's very bistro-ps-cafe in someway.

The row of desserts at the beginning of the shop served its full strategic purpose. Somehow seeing the desserts upclose appeals more than having to rely on a figment of my imagination.

Spy the jar of poached pears?

One Egg Soup ($3.90)

This was recommended. A creamy soup with an artwork of fried egg-whites floating like a lotus leaf on a lake. I found it hearty and tummy warming.

Slurpworthy goodness.

Rootbeer Float ($3.50)

Literally a scoop of icecream balanced on an emptied can of rootbeer.

Grilled Pork Chop with Coleslaw and Shoe String Fries Salt and Vinegar ($13.90)

Another recommended one. Tough pork chops with palatable coleslaw and fries that resembled Mcdonalds' or even those from the frozen department.

Cheese Burger with Baby Caesar Salad and Straight Cut Fries Sour Cream and Onion ($9.90)

"Medium or welldone?" was posed to me and I grinned. I envisioned the patty to be chargrilled, juices overflowing and well, the salivary glands were working at this point. It arrived in a basket half filled with the sides. Baby caesar salad with croutons cut too big, they were more like biscuits. Lovely well tossed salad greens.

Thick cut fries that were doused in powdery sour cream and onion seasoning, reminded me of Pringles. Not the best fries I've eaten, in fact they tasted overfried with the thick dry skin, nary the crispy outter mush innards I was expecting from EWF.

I could barely taste the cheese beneath the generous portion of salsa slapped on top. The herbed beef patty in medium doneness was weirdly not pleasing. Not much of a beef taste, the beef patty fell apart with a prod and a jab of the fork.

In all sadness, I have to say I was sorely disappointed.

Hot Banana Pudding with Butterscotch and Icecream ($5.90)

It was a tough internal struggle between the Mille Crepe, Pear Tart and Pudding. It must have been the sugary words of the pink tee-ed waiter who emphasised on "bananas" and "butterscotch" that swayed my vote.

Icecream came from the same tub as the rootbeer float. The overturned pudding laced with sliced bananas and barely drizzled with butterscotch. Hard. Dry. Coarse. A pitiful way to end the meal.

I must remember never to be tricked by Banana desserts ever again. Once a folly, double a whammy, thrice is quite a stupidity on its own! Either that or so far, none of the places serve decent hot banana desserts, not restricting to puddings per se.

The thing about their fries is, the variety of seasoning gets you all excited. Within the first few bites, there are clear distinctions but thereafter, they somehow taste the same. I agree with nearly most of the floggers who have gently highlighted, with a name like "Everything with Fries", the fries have to be outstanding, stellar or at least better than the frozen packed ones.

Mediocre fries, very normal mains, above average sides and a boring dessert, you probably can form the conclusion for repeats.
