The strange thing about me is we could have the world acclaimed attractions but I would be more intrigued by the ones overseas than those locally but River Safari is one of those places that got me interested - maybe it was the advertising or simply, it was time to visit the highly sought after pandas.
I may very well be one of the last few who has not "met" Jia Jia or Kai Kai.
Located right smack to the Singapore Zoo, it is built in a manner that visitors take a humongous circular trail to visit all the animals that they have. And the star of the attraction happens to be the river cruise that you have to make bookings for right at the start of the trip. We arrived at 10 hoping to book the first few cruises but was only given the 1pm slot - so plan carefully!
Panda Mama's Kitchen is one of the few eateries within River Safari and being the cheapest also meant the longest queues regardless the hour.
A must try.
Panda Pau ($2.90)
There were two flavours available red bean and chocolate custard. Believe it or not, I actually thought this was pretty good - delicious infact.
Soyabean Milk ($3.90)
Pricey but possibly the only non-fizzy drink around and we get to have the tumbler for keeps.
The wait to visit Jia Jia and Kai Kai was horrendously long and of course, I made it in and out alive despite all the jostling done.
There, an obnoxious panda who does not know better than show some appreciation to all of us oogling at its furry butt.
Much thanks to the red panda who bothered enough to pose.
I could be better off with a panda mechanical pencil than fighting to see the panda.
There was an enclosure where we could come into close contact with the squirrel monkeys - too cute!
The untimely rain at 1220pm nearly marred our ride and thankfully it stopped. Remember to bring your own poncho or buy it at the gate for a princely fee of $10 (if memory serves me right), no brollies are allowed on the ride as well.
Almost like a theme park ride, the 10 minute boat ride takes you on this journey to see a whole fleet of animals ranging from flamingoes to leopards and the rest that decided to call it a day because of the earlier rains.
Crimson red scarlet ibis!
Loved the details on the loo signage.
Panda here, panda there, panda everywhere.
Emerald green waters, so very rare in the murky waters that our seas sport.
I love how River Safari is mostly sheltered and I was not trapped in a single place seeking shelter. Best of all, it was well ventilated too - officially, my favourite local attraction.
