It must have been the legendary queues that drove us to try Singapore's version of the hugely famous KL export - Kin Kin Chilli Pan Mee. We arrived at about 720pm and was thankful there was no queue except that most of the soup items were already sold out.
The killer chilli that made me a masochist in a meal.
Instead of their home brewed herbal drink, they have bottled barley, chestnut and canned drinks as alternatives.
The only type of soup left - with meatballs. At $4 a portion of 10 swimming meatballs I thought this was pricey.
$5 per bowl of noodle - they ran out of vegetables by the time my order came and there were no substitutions.
The dollop of chilli flakes that I gingerly added just in case it was spicier than their KL counterpart.
And after several dollops, I reached a spicy fiery red that made it look ready enough to eat. Kudos to them for perfecting the runny egg which KL made cooked but that was just that. The noodles were lacking in density, chilli was a far cry from the expletive-inducing power chilli and the rest was just as forgettable.
I am not even for a return much less queueing 2 hours for this - KL's Kin Kin Chilli Pan Mee, you were so mighty and good at half the price and more than double the satisfaction.
Was it a consolation that they sold out shy of their official 8pm? Maybe.
