Restoran Kin Kin @ KL

kin kin

The legend has arrive in Singapore and before I jump into the bandwagon of the 2 hour wait for a bowl, I flew myself to KL for the flagship instead. Located in the neighbourhood of Medan Tuanku, it is a short walking distance from the subway and at a decent hour of 3pm, there were zero queues. We got to choose the table, order a mixed soup (at peak hours no such flexibility is accorded), take up more chairs than required for our bags and still enjoy our bowl of noodle.

stall

Even at 3pm, business is brisk.

RM 7 per bowl, prices seemed to have taken a hike since their RM 5 days. So then we get served a bowl of hand pulled noodle topped with a poached egg, minced meat and chives. The egg here was more cooked than runny though.

chilli

Do not forget about this famous chilli.

chilli

The magic ingredient lies in their handmade fried chilli flakes which sets the tone for a tongue numbing, nose sniffling meal. I felt my lips burn and linger in pain - well they say no pain, no gain.

noodles

What a masochist for deliciosity, really. I loved the density of the handpulled noodle and best of all the chilli that set the mind and tongue on fire. It was a pleasant pain, well worth every sweat bead dripped for this.

liang teh

Nobody ever leaves without a sweaty forehead or any of their homemade herbal brews. Douse the fire it did quite well.

soup

Our mixed bowl of sides (RM 12) consisted of pork balls, fish balls and fish paste. The soup was so tasty, it could be drunk on its own. Freshly made fish balls made all the difference.

notice

The place is rustic - rundown, grime fills the tiles and they lay barking orders on their walls. I found one really hilarious though. Pity the chilli thief that gets slain since the day she decided to steal some of their chilli. Beats me why they would not capitalize on that to churn out bottles for sale - methinks that would have a career even more sustainable than the noodle stall proper.

notice

Oh yes, cctvs are well hidden with four telly screens dedicated to diners. I have never experienced such tight security at any other eating house - and then there's Kin Kin.
