Special thanks to Yat Kah and Dennis for the wines!
I am no wine connoisseur but I do enjoy a good wine when I encounter one. The only time that made me bother to note the exact name and track down stockists for it was at this particular wine and dine session. Yes, my favourite henceforth.
In all honesty, I only know my Merlots and Chardonays and then it ends - chilean wines are possibly the newest I have come across and here comes South African wines. Nederburg Wines' Heritage Heroes range has debuted in Singapore, they are an esteemed South African wine producer who has been around for more than 200 years and have won a great number of awards both in South Africa and internationally, it has launched its Heritage Heroes range to honour some of the major figures who have shaped Nederburg’s history and inspired its winemaster, Razvan Macici.
Wines from this limited edition, hand-made gourmet wines - Heritage Heroes range are named The Brew Master, The Motorcycle Marvel, The Anchorman and The Young Airhawk respectively, with each offering an inspiring story of a winemaster who has contributed to Nederburg Wines’ success.
This range’s quartet consists of: The Brew Master (Bordeaux-style blend), The Motorcycle Marvel (Rhônestyle blend), The Anchorman (Chenin Blanc) and The Young Airhawk (Sauvignon Blanc). They are currently rated 4 stars and above in the Platter’s Wine Guide, South Africa’s definitive wine guide.
I had the privilege to taste two - just in time for the big day as well!
The Motorcycle Marvel | Rhônestyle blend
Smooth red and it has found a spot for favourite red. It has an abundance of spicy, peppery berry and sweet fruit characters and is outstanding with roasts, barbecued steaks, spicy chicken and intensely flavoured pasta dishes.

Take a swig.

And another before the night was a deliriously happy one.
The Anchorman | Chenin Blanc (2011)
This wine is named after Nederburg’s founder, Philippus Wolvaart, who bought the farm in 1791 and planted Chenin Blanc, amongst other varietals. He had the vision and courage to tame a wilderness and grow great wine. His fingertips are still on every wine we make.
We did a pairing with mooncakes and it was a perfect match infact - a more interesting twist to chinese tea. Slightly acidic and laced with ripe fruits, especially apricots and oranges with a floral hints and traces of raisin and spice, this was an easy to like white.
The Heritage Heroes range is available at S$39 per bottle and the II Centuries Cabernet Sauvignon is available at S$79 per bottle at DFS.
