METIS @ Kuta, Bali

Located in the off beaten part of Kuta, the journey here from Uluwatu Temples was dreadful - 1.5 hours in total with a jam to boot and of course, a road friendly driver like mine who would not for the living daylights of himself go beyond 50km/hr is beyond me.

Chef Nicolas 'Doudou' Tourneville, formerly of Kafe Warisan , brings his legendary talent and culinary artistry to the table with a masterful combination of French Mediterranean cuisine. Filled with mainly westerners, before we quickly brush it aside as a tourist trap, let me walk you through my experience.

reservations

Handwritten reservations!

frangipani

Sealed with a flower.

terrace view

Crowded as can be.

lotus pond

Lotus pond view.

Requests for warm water were bluntly rejected with "sparkling or still." Our 1.5L Evian (IDR 55,000) could only last beyond 8 glasses.

bread

The bread basket of breadsticks and rolls were enough for us to go through at least three rounds each, filling us up considerably.

butter

Unsalted butter always makes me happy.

soup

Lobster Bisque, Crab Tortellini (IDR 98,000)

Flavourful soup with mild touches of seafood, the crab tortellini was however forgettable.

fries

Homemade French Fries (IDR 40,000)

Really good fries, crispy and salty all at once.

fries

Amazing dips too!

greens

Baby Organic Végétables (IDR 40,000)

Greens to meet our daily intake.

dumplings

Salmon Tortellini (IDR 145,000)

Average at best and the creamy sauce was infact the best of the dish. Great with bread!

prawns

Pan Seared King Prawns, Baby Potatoes, Shimeji Mushroom, Green Asparagus, Light Coconut Tomato and Basil Sauce (IDR 175,000)

These crunchy bulbs were actually quite good with the tangy sauce. It would go perfectly with rice.

seafood pasta

Lobster and Seafood Linguini, Saffron Chives Velouté (IDR 189,000)

Noodles cooked al dente and tossed in a beautiful broth and seafood slivers. It was fishy at some parts but otherwise, an okay pasta dish.

duck confit

Duck Leg Confit, Mushroom Saute Potatoes, Curly Endive Salad, Black Pepper Sauce (IDR 185,000)

A tad salty but then again hardly are duck confits not this over marinated. The portion of mushroom sauteed potatoes were decently portioned as a side on its own. It was only after dinner that we realised how much MSG went into it.

fork

The cute fish fork for weeding out the bones!

snapper

Red Snapper (IDR 178,000)

A tad fishy.

steak

"L'Entrecost" 200 days Australian Black Angus Ribeye (IDR 295,000)

A really decent cut at 250 grams for the price paid. Every bite was succulent with a lovely shade of pink.

millefeuille

Salted Butter Caramel Millefeuille (IDR 67,000)
A Classic Millefeuille made from Salted Butter Caramel Cream, Almond Crumbled, Caramel Sauce

Caramel made this too sweet and the layers were hardly as crispy as desired.

raspberry souffle

Raspberry Soufflé, Lychee Jelly, Raspberry Sherbet and Coulis (IDR 78,000)

drip

A 25 minute wait for this rendered this a must try at the back of my mind. Light yet soggy at the same time though lychee jelly probably stood out for being simple and nice.

wet towels

Innovative napkins.

expand

When placed in water they inflate! Unroll it for a wet napkin.

There weekday lunch sets are really affordable at

Two courses at IDR 90,000++
Three courses at IDR 120,000++

It is catered for the foreigners - those with a lifestyle to maintain. Ambience check, food checked and prices checked, I would not be raring to return but it was a pleasant visit nonetheless.

trishaw

Trishaw at the entrance of the restaurant - or was it the lifestyle shop. Oh well, until the next visit if ever there will be another.
