Ben's @ Pavilion

I remember wanting to dropby Ben's the last visit and subsequently read tons of posts on Ben's being Malaysia's P.S. Cafe. I was bent on visiting. Crowds were manageable at dinner time past 8pm, though 10 minutes really is a considerably shorter wait than expected. People do walk-in in throngs throughout the 2 hours we were there.

food question

Each table has a set of cards - and I guess we were bored and spontaneous enough to start fiddling with them. This question is totally meant for me. As my readers, you should know the answer by now? The question cards were perfect for whiling away time in between ordering and getting our food. We were probably too bored and ended up finishing the deck of questions by the end of the meal.

belgium potato

Belgian Fries with Sauce Andalouse (RM 8.9)

My impression of belgian fries are at least handcut and thick with a dollop of mayo. None of the above infact. These criss cut fries were obviously straight off the freezer from some supermart brand. Unimpressed.

sirloin

Steak Frites (RM 49.90)
Char-grilled Striploin with Black Pepper Sauce, French Fries and Green Beans

I liked the charred fragrance of this, a lot more tender than my steak sandwich.

crabmeat linguine

Crabmeat Linguine Puttanesca (RM 23.90)
Robust Tomato-flavoured Sauce with Anchovies, Capers and Chilli Flakes

This tomato based pasta was pretty well done though the crabmeat was mildly fishy.

steak sandwich

Steak Sandwich (RM 23.90)

Served on such a rough choice of ciabatta, I barely touched it. Steak served medium was a tad overcooked and I ended up with too much jaw exercise for the night. Salad and 4 colour chips made it worthwhile but otherwise, a terrible rendition of what Marmalade in the City would have nailed so fine.

key lime meringue

Lemon Meringue Tart (RM 9.90)

Still found some tum space for dessert despite the rough start! The meringue was in fact torched marshmellow, the lemon curd was not too sour and I liked the tart base best.

Overall a rather weak replica of P.S. Cafe though service at Ben's is tons better. After all the hype, Ben's did not live up to expectations.
