Nenrinya Baumkuchen @ Matsuzakaya Department Store

It is odd that I could not be bothered with Baumkuchen in Germany when it was ubiquitously distributed yet I hunted it down so hard in Tokyo. The irony of it all? It originates from Germany.

With a perpetual queue, Nenrinya is hard to miss.

The box with a whole lot of promises, with the most glaring "made with all our hearts".

Unveiling it was a fragrant affair.

If anything, the closest to this would be Muji's Baumkuchen than Glace Patisserie's interpretation. Moist like kueh lapis, this packed a whole lot more fragrance and fluff than kueh lapis. Does not help it is barely guilty without a trace of oil. Easy to eat and hard to resist, it was gone sooner than we all expected. I would call it a kueh lapis sponge cake...I would have no second thoughts wolfing this box after box over chinese new year!
