With the ash cloud looming and London airport shut, I boarded the plane home with much reluctance. Yes, I sheepishly and cowardly wished that the stay in Paris would be extended somehow.
It was the A380 on the way back once again, extra leg space and...slightly more comfy-ier than the way to Paris. At least the flight was not full and I had the pleasure of two seats to myself..if only I moved fasted and grabbed an entire four seater for a perfect snooze.
Dinner from Paris - HKG
Medina Salad
I was pleased as punch to find the sliver of smoked salmon sitting pretty on the salad. How often do you get smoked salmon in an airline meal anyway? Ok, perhaps the noob me hardly finds it. The smoked salmon was slightly too chilled but tasted alright nonetheless. The salad was a stunner. Sour and queer. It was like coleslaw but in a strange way.
Bread Roll
I loved the bread on the way to Paris but from Paris? This was too rough.
Apricot Cake
The apricot was nicely soaked and the cake was ordinary.
Pork Provencale with Parsley Mashed Potatoes and Vegetables
Tastes as appetizing as it looks. Lean porky cubes with buttery mash and the daily serving of veggies.
Sauteed Beef with assorted Mushroom in Oyster Sauce, Steamed Rice and Mixed Vegetables
Less outstanding that the Pork but equally delish. After 13 days of bread, rice was delicious in a heartwarming way. Liked how pickles were part of the dish to whet the appetite.
Tortelli with Mozzarella and Tomato, Cream Sauce with Herbs and Tomato Sauce
Greed overtook when we could actually order a third selection since the flight was barely full. I gingerly opened the aluminium foil certainly not expecting much after the prior pasta experience en route Paris. The European chefs in the Cathay kitchen are quite something I must say. Dumplings stuffed with melted mozzarella and milky sauce...after 5 bouncy pieces and I was officially stuffed way over the top to sleep like a cat.
Continental Breakfast
Seasonal Fresh Fruit
Grapefruit sure needs some getting used to..
Selected Pastries
Flaky croissants, chocolate chip pastry and raisin pastry....the tongue had been over pampered by the European bakers so much so this was...well, moderate.
Bread Roll
Fruits
The usual healthy to balance the sin.
Lunch from HKG-SIN
Sausage and Omelette
This had me laughing, an overdue breakfast item appeared at lunch! Processed sausage, limp hashbrown, juicy tomato and overly yellow omelette. Now you get why I treat such meals with disdain.
Stir Fried Chicken Noodles
Comparatively better but I'd not want a repeat. Soggy noodles that can rival eefu noodles from weddings.
Apricot Yoghurt
I wish they served icecream instead but yoghurt was good enough to round up the otherwise food-ful holiday.
So there it ended, with a last lick of the spoon and the plane touching down...the best 13 days was over.
Cathay, I can't wait to fly with you again.
