A thing or two about Pretzels: Smart Shop Weber @ Wurzburg

Very unintentionally, going to Frankfurt and some part of the romantic road sparked off a Pretzel craze, amongst the other crazes that took place at the same time. Pretzels are baked friends of the dough that are uniquely twisted into a knot.

Wiki education time! Those from Germany are sprinkled with coarse salt, made from wheat flour, water and yeast, glazed with lye. Of course, there are two kinds available, the doughy type and the biscuit kind!

We skipped along the cobbled streets in search of spargel or white asparagus that was in season through May. (I know this is severely overdue...) but could not find any! Took shelter from the colds in this bright looking bakery.

Those who shop here are smart too?

The like-minded. Smart Shop's like a budget bakery, oogle all you want at the lovely bakes on the wall. The baked goods are priced as such amazingly pocket friendly prices, it is no wonder the shop was perpetually packed.

Bageuette Belegt (1,35€)

Chewy baguette with egg mayo, simply a delight.

Gemuse Kuchen (0,99€)

The pastry was slightly pasty and not quite like the quiches eaten locally. This spinach quiche was packed with so much spinach, carrots and celery...you have to be a veggie lover!

Laugen Bretzel (0,32€)

The cheapest pretzel around! Pretzels are thick dense bread with a sprinkle of salt. Am not too huge a fan of pretzels but this was well...alright!

Kirsch Streusel (0.79€)

I could not resist this streusel bun! I find soft buns in Europe a rarity since most of their baked goods do have a bite..at least from Brussels to Amsterdam and Frankfurt it was the case. Juicy cherries with crumbly struesel on a soft bun...yum!

Affordable fare for the budget traveller for sure...alternatively I am sure you can find something decent to eat here!
