TWG Tea 2 @ Ion Orchard

Back at TWG...alas!
Since the last visit, the queues have indeed gotten longer.
Public Holiday or not, the queues were perpetually there despite it being , at least 30 minute wait though the caucasian waiter could not help but mentally prepare us for a 45 minute wait or even an hour, to play safe.

Wait, is what Singaporeans do best at.

Macarons
Napoleon Tea & Caramel
Bain De Rose Tea

The previously based in Paris and well versed in French gf gently corrected me on the pronounciation of macaron. Not meh-kah-ron but meh-ca-hon, darlings.

But nobody pronounces that way in Singapore, I protest. Even the waiter made the same mistake.

Like Laduree, La-du-hey? The gf simply offered, "Just point" in Paris, to save the trouble.

These were offered on the house when they did a change of seats for us. A kind gesture from TWG but the way it was communicated was hilarious, "Can I beg you to do us a favour?" Go easy on the drama, folks. The change in seats was much worse for me, with hollow flooring making every movement felt, and the chair was jerky.

So, the complimentary macarons. The dark one I fondly remember, had a sticky delicious caramel filling. I don't remember my tastebuds being bewitched by any macaron previously but caramel's getting my vote! The rose was too sweet though. TWG's sugar shells are too crispy and sweet, Pierre Hermes the gf insisted I try.

Singapore Surprise ($8.50)
Strawberries, Creme Brulee, Tart

The chopped sweet-sour strawberries, curd-like creme brulee and tart was good for me. Supposedly signature, Singapore Surprise did not surprise as much. Would not say "wow" but not bad.

Caramel Banana ($8.50)
Caramel, Banana, Chocolate

I fault the oozing caramel for being a wrong indicator. Sour, is what this is about. Raw bananas with lightly sweetened caramel, not a fan of the contrast.

The gf commented TWG resembled a particular tea place in Paris, similar in layout and well...unique. Somehow it did not wow one who's been to Paris, till Paris...then! The second visit at TWG saw it losing the magical touch I was once charmed with, possibly due to the choice of desserts made.

  1. TWG's desserts are way too overrated, macarons included. Overly saccharinely sweet. The teas are good though.

  2. have to agree about the overrated bit although I enjoyed the turnover the previous round...wasn't wowed by the macarons though caramel was better than the rest. Not a tea person (which is a great irony!)...

  3. marriage freres is the paris place she might be thinking of. which is where twg's founded used to work, surprise surprise. i might also point out, having a few varieties of from both brands, marriage tea is a lot better than twg (depth, flavour, brightness etc).
