Brussel Sprouts @ The Pier, Robertson Quay

R excitedly told me about this place, near all the exotic food gems...Laurent Bernard Chocolatier, Pizzeria, Sketches Pizza. I went there once years back on New Year's Eve to welcome the year over fruit beers and cocktails.

Off we went for dinner, away from the claustrophobic city, away from the fuss...Brussels was relatively packed for a weekday.

Once again charmed by their interesting chandeliers.

King Crab Salad on Toast ($9.50)

A friend strongly recommended this. Three slices of toasted bread with crab salad. The bread varied in terms of toasted levels, two came softer and less charred than the last. I was expecting crunchy toast which makes teasing apart easier. The King Crab Salad was delicious but tasted like Tuna Egg Mayo uncannily. The side salad was a great appetizer on its own, playing up the sour tones quite well.

Consistency of toast varied across all three slices, the first was like croissant a little fluffy, the second slightly crunchier and the third, almost like a toasted biscuit.

Devilled Starter Size ($18.50)
Chili padi, coriander, curry, lime, tomato

Brussels is known for their mussels, next to their fruit beers. It arrived in a pot that resembles those you would cook your food in at OBS Camp.

There were at least 15 mussels in it. The mussels were limp and shrivelled, no where near the plump juicy I had in mind. It was "spicy" as warned but seemed like the Spicy Buffalo Wings at Sunset Grill, spicy for the sake of it, so much so it has lost its character in all that spice. It was just flaming hot.

Their freeflow of thick cut fries was weirdly tasty, two buckets was all I could manage from all the freeflow.

Stuffed with mashed potato.

Only Ketchup and Chilli Sauce were offered for dips.

Service is slightly pretentious. The waiter slanged his way in such friendliness, it was a little annoying. Overall, it is a place for expats. At least two-thirds the place is filled with them. Maybe just drinks at Brussels next time.
