I'm as noob about surabaya cakes as I am about emping crackers. These were given from a family friend who visited Surabaya and well I know them as butter and chocolate cake in distinct layers.
This is both in one, butter cake and kueh lapis all in one, really moist and sinful. Perfect for tea and it does come in an assortment of other flavours!
Somehow I prefer our own local kueh lapis recipe better. Theirs is on the sweet side.
