Patara Thai Revisited @ Tanglin Mall

It is no secret how much the family and I adore Patara Thai Restaurant and it is our to-go when we seek comfort Thai food. With so many meals eaten there, it is no doubt that we would have had repeats of dishes and here's the chowdown from the latest visit.

Som Tum
Spicy green papaya salad with dried prawns

We can never resist a spicy salad that hits all notes of shiok - sour, spicy and sweet all at once. The refreshing crunch is definitely worth a mention.

Jang Lorn Goong
Grilled prawn cakes on lemongrass sticks served with sweet chilli dip

I'm still on the fence about these, firm prawn cakes on a lemongrass stick. Can be missed if you ask me.

Kaffir Corn Fritters
Sweet corn cakes with a hint of curry paste and kaffir lime

We tried something from their vegetarian menu and these corn cakes lived up to expectations, sweet and crunchy kernels locked in a crispy patty. So delicious even without the dressing!

Khao Ob Maprao
Roasted coconut rice with smoked coconut water

This is a must, I love the fragrance and texture of this. Complements all their signature dishes.

Gai Gapraw
Stir-fried chicken with chilli and crisp basil

This Thai staple was excellently executed. Loved the wok hei and flavours in this.

Steamed Seabass with Chilli and Lime Dressing

We had many a good fish dish and this was disappointing both in terms of freshness and portions. I definitely had better fish dishes from Patara Thai.

Gang Kiew Wan Nua
Classic Thai beef shin green curry with sweet basil and bird’s eye chilli

Tender beef slices in a flavoursome curry and actually chicken in green curry is not the best combination. Infact, beef works better!

Gang Mala
Red curry with prawns and bittergourd

We also gave the red curry a shot, fiery in looks this was milder in flavor profile than green curry.

Phad Phak Bung Kapi
Stir-fried morning glory with shrimp paste and chilli

Khana Moo Grob
Stir-fried Chinese kai lan with roasted pork

Moo Krob Pad Prig Khing
Stir-fried crispy pork with homemade curry paste and long bean

We somehow ended up with three vegetable dishes and the last two tasted same. The crispy pork was more outstanding in the stir fry with the kailan though.

Phad Thai
Thai style fried noodles, with assorted vegetables or with prawns

Trust them to nail this so well - wok hei, al dente noodles and lard!
