Ah Teik Durian @ Lorong Susu, Penang

With the durian season on and prices plummeting in Singapore, I just had to get my hands on the King of Fruit in Malaysia. Granted Penang does not have as many durian farms as the other states, fact is, they still produce durians and there are a number of stalls and farms to visit if you're keen. I just did not have the appetite for a durian buffet which does not come cheap! Some farms come with a farm stay too. Talk about hardcore durian fans.

The mind boggling varieties that Ah Teik stocks - of course not all are available at once. There are just so many that I've not even heard before, much less tasted.

We approached the stall, stated our preferences and the seller gave his recommendations from this stable of thorny fruit.

At 2pm, stock levels were considered reasonable. With the brisk business they were enjoying, I doubt there would be any left by end of day!

RM 90 for bittersweet creamy seeds of Red Prawn. What makes this experience so addictive is, we were dining by the roadside, seeds could be discarded into the plastic baskets beneath the tables, bottled water was provided and so were plastic gloves.

One must do checked, can't wait to check out the other durian sellers next time!
