Waking up to BKT does not seem such a bad idea afterall and in our bid to chomp down JB's BKT spots, we decided to go to the more accessible Soon Soon Heng located just next to KSL City. For 8ish am, it was relatively empty and both getting a table and ordering was a breeze.
Manned by a young man, we made our orders briskly and received them equally fast.
They cautioned against over ordering and recommended portions of 4 pax for 6 of us and we topped up with a range of ingredients.
Bak Kut Teh (RM 48)
The owners were kind enough to advise us against over ordering so this portion for 4 was meant for 6. I ordered a whole load of other ingredients to go with the pork ribs in herbal broth. This was probably the least memorable of all the BKTs eaten in my JB trails, infact, close to what we have in Singapore.
The staple side kicks of preserved vegetable and fried dough fritter.
The pork ribs were albeit chunky but missing out on the rich flavours of the broth. Rather ordinary.
Even pork belly could not save the ship.
It was a mild peppery broth that was similar to what we have locally, the pork ribs were meaty and side dishes were decent but it lacked the punch of the other BKT places.
Average at best and it left us half satisfied.
