~Invited Session~

Jin Shan Lou has included a supper menu in their repertoire of 70 chinese dishes prepared by award winning chefs - and the bewitching hours are from 10.30pm to 2.30am. Master Chef Huang Ching Biao helms the kitchen and pays homage to his Taiwanese roots in most of the dishes showcased in the supper feast.

One hearty spread to behold.

I am a finicky eater when it comes to porridge, the consistency cannot be too thick nor thin like gruel and teo chew porridge hits all things right with the grains cooked till soft and comes with a translucent porridge water - and sweet potatoes cooked with it makes it just one delicious dish on its on.

Braised Duck in Signature Sauce ($20)

Of all the braised dishes, I enjoy duck best for its tender meat and light tasting gravy. What is best then is to drizzle the braised sauce on my porridge.

Fried Pomfret with Bean Sauce ($18)

Steamed Minced Pork with Salted Egg  ($16)

Stewed Pork Belly with Preserved Vegetable ($16)

Also known as 梅菜扣肉, this savoury dish goes very well with the bland porridge.

Braised Pork Belly ($20)

Another joyful braised dish with fatty pork belly to complete things.

Deep-fried Shrimp Paste Chicken ($24)

I consider this the perfect bar food over supper, crazily addictive crispy prawn paste chicken skin especially!

Chinese Omelette with Marinated Meat ($18)

I first thought this would have been chye poh omelette but it was a fluffy egg meaty version, not too bad either.

A number of vegetable dishes were also showcased and to be honest, it is almost impossible to go wrong with stir fried vegetable dishes.

Sautéed Potato Leaf with Ginger ($18)

Sautéed Bean Sprouts with Salted Fish ($18)

Main Dishes from the A-la-carte Menu

Taiwan Dragon Wine Chicken with Basil and Spices
S: $20 | M: $30 | L: $40

This claypot delight was one of my favourites of the night, the flavours and wok hei that shone through with every bite.

Stir Fried Cuttlefish with Sambal Sauce
S: $28 | M: $42 | L: $56

I consider this a must try - for a lack of better words. Spicy and absolutely wonderful with porridge, I wonder how cuttlefish can be cooked till so tender and the sambal sauce that caused quite a lovely uproar in the palette - I would be content with just this and rice (comes with vegetables too, almost a balanced diet!).

At 1030pm, there are limited options for supper in town and I dare say almost none beyond the shores of Geylang and likes of Mcdonalds - so why not consider Jin Shan Lou at Marina Bay Sands that guarantees a quiet environment for a hearty meal. Oh yes, a walk by the river would be just as nice after the meal.
