Thanks Clareen for the invite!
SUFOOD, a new meat-free dining concept in Singapore, hailing from Taiwan’s largest restaurant chain operator WOWPRIME in a joint venture with local PUTIEN. SUFOOD menu is Italian-inspired with a playful cross-fusion approach to culinary creations. The vast selection of ingredients are mostly locally sourced or flown in from neighbouring countries like Malaysia and Thailand to preserve freshness of vegetables which have shorter shelf life.
We were treated to an 8 course meal priced at $25++.
Summer Salad
Sweet potato, carrot, pepper, seasonal fruits, thousand island sauce, sesame sauce
Mushroom Salad
Button, shitake mushroom, brocolli, cherry tomatoes, vinegar dressing
I prefer my salads full of greens rather than fruit.
We were then presented with plum cider to whet the appetite, tastes very refreshing!
Cream of Pumpkin Soup
Root Soup
Burdock root, lotus root, cashew nuts, light vegetable broth
Highly recommended and I prefer this oriental soup to the western soup. Hearty and sweet, this would go with rice.
SUFOOD Appetizer
Japanese Yuca Root with blueberry coulis
This was a starchy one, either love or hate it and I thought this reminded me of natto.
Oriental white water snowflake greens
The intricacy of this appetizer was astounding but tastewise just a stack of vegetables.
Savoury Cherry Tomato Jelly
My favourite of the lot, a sweet-sour jelly combination with preserved tomato.
Rosemary Breadsticks
Sweet mustard
Freshly baked sticks which were so addictive, I wish they served seconds of this.
Baked Potato Al Funghi
Steamed King Oyster mushroom, Italian Herb Vinaigrette, Baked Potato, Button mushrooms, cherry tomatoes, melted cheese
Beautifully plated and I adored the baked potato best.
It was actually stuffed with more greens.
Spaghetti Pesto
Fresh basil pesto
The pasta was somewhat overcooked though the basil pesto was a generous dollop which made this slightly over laden with pesto.
Star Pizza
The tastiest of the three with a wholesome thin crust and topped with cheese, tomatoes and nori!
Sesame Panna Cotta
Panna cotta coated with sesame paste, this was more of a pudding than panna cotta.
Vanilla Icecream with Hot Chocolate
We had greater fun coating the icecream with chocolate and watching the crust come to shape.
SUFOOD also has a range of healthy drinks to accompany the dishes.
The Ashitaba
The Tropical
I am a salad person who also loves her greens but a full vegetarian meal was an overload of mushrooms. It may have been my choices for the night but notable picks are the root soup and star pizza.
If it appeals to anyone, they have a range of collectibles for purchase.
