We chanced upon Donald and Lily's when the original intent was to lunch at Amy's - a snooty place that apparently is always full and refuses customers at the door at 1.50pm when the official closing time for lunch is 2.30pm. Thankfully, at 2pm Donald and Lily's doors were wide open.
Melaka may be facing a shortage of restaurants to deal with the increasing appetite of customers and by the time we had a table, we were told most items on the menu were already sold out.
Donald and Lily's is a name
Sour Vegetable Duck Soup
This was a watered down version, barely tasting the savoury and sour flavours.
Chilli Kang Kong
Seems like Melaka folks do not like sambal in their vegetables much, once again I wish there was more punch.
Ayam Pongtih
Soy sauce chicken, very home made in taste and this was rather ordinary.
Mee Siam
The only dish that was available till the last diner - thankfully! I thought this was beautifully executed with the right dose of spice and tanginess. Beehoon noodles were cooked al dente and yes, this had to be the best plate of mee siam eaten in Malaysia.
I suppose the locals do know better and head to Donald and Lily's for unpretentious food.
