Nara Thai is the latest export from the Land of Smiles, supposedly a leading Thai restaurant having been voted Thailand's Best Restaurant since 2006. Replacing BK's shop space is an eatery that can sit up to 115 people.

A shore of fish on the wall.

The restaurant sported seats positioned so close to each other, it felt somewhat claustrophobic at times.

Assorted Nara's Hors D'oeuvre ($17.90)
Pomelo salad, pandan chicken, thai fish cakes, barbequed pork
A platter comprising of their appetizers and the one that stood out was the pandan chicken for its tenderness and fragrance. I thought the thai fish cakes acquired though they insist that these were made in house fresh everyday, they still tasted somewhat stale even after replacement.

Replacement fish cakes.
Deep Fried Pork Neck with Sesame Seeds ($9.90)
I remember having a good pork's neck at Two Fat Men Bar yonks back and to date, still relish that delicious sinewy cut. These were fried pork slices scattered with sesame seeds.
Stir Fried Soft Shell Crab in Yellow Curry ($18.90)
Sweet based curry that made it less appetizing than it should have been savoury. The crisp fried soft shell crab however was tasty.
Tom Yum Goong ($19.90)
A major upset with their barely spicy tom yum soup though the prawns were decently sized and fresh.

Small prawns.
Stir Fried Morning Glory ($10.90)
This could do with some spice really but since this was sold non spicy, just a plate of overly priced fried kang kong.
Thai Herbs Fried Rice ($10.90)
Coloured a shade of blue that would make any nonya kueh pretty, the rice was topped with shrimp and made with thai herbs which made this a delicately flavoured rice dish. I suppose glutinous rice grains were used for the slightly sticky texture.

Instead of coconut, we went with grass jelly drink.
Overly priced place riding on a brand name that probably has more to offer in Thailand.

Honestly, that's about the same as what you'd get if you went to Nara Thai in Bangkok. Seems more like tourist fare than where you'd take a hardcore Thai food lover.
