Ramen Champion @ Great World City

Special thanks to Malcolm and team for the invite!

Ramen Champion has opened a new outlet at Great World City and while I missed out on the exciting first Ramen Eating Competition in Singapore, where 10 male Singaporean ramen fans pit themselves against a female Japanese celebrity competitive eater Ms Tomoko Miyake, I was treated to a night of ramen.

Open for ramen!

DSC_0114

The layout is pretty much the same as their other outlets.

DSC_0116

Same concept applies too.

DSC_0120

Condiments for further flavouring.

DSC_0121

Follow them on twitter or catch a Japanese looking man serving you ramen at their booth. I suppose this is how a ramen cook usually dresses - beanie included.

DSC_0110

Unlike the Bugis+ outlet, this Ramen Champion sports just 4 ramen shops, 1 beverage and a soft serve icecream machine is on its way.

DSC_0111

The recommended drink for the meal - Kyoto Lemon! A refreshing zesty drink that was not too sweet.

DSC_0123

I actually lost count of the number of cups consumed by the end of the night.

Bishamon Zero

Recently acquired by Ramen Champion, this used to be a standalone shop at where Ramen Champion is now. They hail from Sapporo, the land of ramen - as with all the other prefectures where ramen is pretty much a staple.

Okonomiyaki Gyoza (5 pcs, $5.80)
Bonito flakes

I can never tell my gyozas apart and the thing about this was, it tasted much like takopachi.

DSC_0132

Mentaiko Gyoza (5 pcs, $5.80)

The mentaiko sauce could be stronger for a better differentiation of the two.

DSC_0147

Tori Karaage ($4.80)

Fried food always pleases and so did this.

DSC_0134
Sapporo Miso Special Ramen ($14.80)

It could be me and Sapporo ramen that I find on the oily side.

DSC_0139

A great pity noodles were cooked too soft too.

DSC_0170

Cod Fish Tofu ($4.80)
Tasted much like fishcake tofu.

DSC_0168
Spicy Cold Tofu ($3.80)
This was just cold tofu with spicy sauce, maybe pitan tofu should be offered instead!

Tonkotsu Itto

Ranked as the no. 1 ramen shop in Tokyo and featured on Asia Best-Ever Dining Awards, Tonkotsu Itto’s Hakata style ramen is a popular choice among Japanese and ramen lovers

DSC_0141

Special Tonkotsu Ramen ($16.50)

This comprised of wanton thin noodles and tasted quite like wanton mee gone Japanese. Did not help that this was the mildest in flavour of the lot, lacking in some flavour overall.

DSC_0143

Longeveity noodle anyone?

DSC_0173

Garlic Pork Butter Rice ($6)

The pow-wow bomb I'd say of the offerings we tried, char grilled porky bits that made this Japanese version of braised pork rice so delicious!

Miyamoto

Miyamoto won the award of 2012 Narita City Most Popular Ramen, was named the first runner up in the awards of--2013 Narita City Most Popular Ramen, and 2012 Gurutto Chiba

Pork and Vegetable Ramen ($16)

An overflowing bowl of beansprouts and ramen that had an eefu noodle thickness. Thankfully no alkaline noodle taste.

DSC_0153

Too filling this proved with an over generosity for all ingredients.

Butaou

Butaou was awarded Outstanding Ramen Rookie Award at Hong Kong's The Ultimate Ramen Champion competition, its ramen distinguishes itself by the sweetness in their Sukiyaki broth.Word has it that queues can last for 3 hours just for a bowl of this heavenly noodle.

Special Sukiyaki Ramen ($16)

The best of the night for me with the right savoury punch with the shoyu based broth and lovely noodle texture. Infact, this was the only stall that served runny poached egg with their ramen. I particularly loved the pork belly slices and char siew included in the same bowl - perfect for those who love variety.

DSC_0164

Slurp!

DSC_0157

Spicy Chicken (3 pcs, $5)

Hardly spicy though, these wings were on the soggy side.

Butao for my vote at this Ramen Champion outlet!

Do drop by for more of the ramen offerings since every outlet sports different stalls.
