Special thanks to Helie, Food and Travel and all participating merchants for the lovely journey!
Star Vista, a gem of the west is perhaps one of those heartlander malls that is studded with so many food gems and next to an mrt that makes it a great place to hang out. I was invited to do a food trail of what the mall has to offer this Christmas - a sneak peek! Of course, there are several others not featured so here's the chowdown on what we had - a tummy bursting culinary trail.

In for a treat!

#01-32/K1

Counter.

Coffee for take away, anyone?

Pastries to go with their coffee.

More of these temptations.

Classic reminder.

Barrista Eric - the man behind the counter, displayed his latte art skills with pretty creations of bears, phoenixes, dragons and even elephants on top of the usual rosetta, tulip and heart designs.

The boss, who made everything possible.

We were presented with their Fabulous Christmas Sampler - a taste of their specialties.

Stole a peek at the kitchen prepping them before they were served - military style yo!
French Bread and Butter Pudding
Served with dark chocolate ganache and vanilla icecream
Made with croissants, this bread and butter pudding is extra sinful! Drizzled with dark chocolate ganache, the contrast of bitter and sweet is balanced.
Classic Chocolate Mousse Pot
Dollop of whipped cream and strawberry
Smooth chocolate mousse for the sweet toothed.
Jamaica Blue Signature Blend Latte
Depending on our luck, we would get either one of these creations.

Tulips.

If only it were a fire phoenix.

Elephant fit for the zoo.

How about a pretty peacock!

A googoogaga teddy bear.

Dragon baby!

Simply hearts?

Earl Grey Tea, 1872 Clipper Tea Lounge
How about a cuppa tea instead? A lovely pairing with the sweet treats.
Brotzeit
#02-17/19
Their christmas menu lasts from 16 December 2013 to 5 January 2014 - great news for brotzeit fans!
Beef Wellington ($46)
Prime cut tenderloin, fine leg of ham, mushrooms, sauteed beetroot, parsnip, spinach and baby potatoes

A christmas classic, portions are great for 2-3 with a beautifully seared tenderloin. In its thickness, the succulence and tenderness was maintained in every bite. I would prefer a filo pastry instead but definitely a memorable first beef wellington.

Homemade Mulled Red Wine ($12.50)
Traditional German warm red wine spiced with cinnamon and cloves
Originating from Germany, this cooked red wine is served warm and is officially my favourite christmas drink - move over egg nog! Nary a trace of its alcohol roots, this could pass off as warm grape juice. Loving the cinnamon hints in particular - drink while it lasts!
Brotzeit Paltter (4-5pax) ($88)
Pork knuckle, sausages, pork schnitzels, two side dishes
The amazing graze I call this - fills the table up completely. Crispy pork cackling, juicy sausages and pork schnitzel made us all belly happy. Brozeit's signatures all these are!

Authentically german.
Other specials include Stuffed Turkey Breast, Honey Glazed Roasted Duck platter and Winter Beer!
Owl Cafe
#02-10/11

Enter into their casual cafe.

Equally matchy dining area.

Coffee bags for purchase to replicate the Owl experience at home!

Christmas Set ($14.80) is a must try for the budget conscious and looking to try Owl Cafe! With their mains starting from $8.80, the set is very value for money.

Waiting to be served!
Thai Styled Chicken Strips Salad
A tangy salad dressing with crispy chicken strips on a bed of greens, a refreshing appetizer.
Mushroom Cheese Baked Spaghetti in Creamy Sauce
A delicious yet heavy number with a generous amount of cheese, mushrooms and pasta.

A surprising number!

Coffee Brownie with Vanilla Icecream
Infused with their instant Kopi-Gao coffee powder, the coffee hints are well balanced with the sweet chocolate brownie.

Spaghetti Laksa with Tiger Prawns ($12.80)
Here's a modernist take on a hawker favourite and it turned out well too. Apart from the slightly soggy noodles, the flavour was well captured and with right ingredients to recreate laksa in pasta - well done Owl Cafe! If not for the limited tummy space, I would have gladly polished this off!
Assam Chicken Wings ($9.90)
Marinated with a spicy blend, these are a delightful alternative to grilled wings or even spicy wings.
Hae Chor ($5.80)
A local cafe gone upmarket, tasty offerings at pocket friendly prices. Christmas promotions are on from 15 November to 29 December 2013.

Iced Coffee
What better chance than to attempt coffee here? In true kopitiam style, no frills coffee.

We were clearly overfed.
Marble Slab Creamery
#B1-42

The beautiful medley of flavours and colours that makes the heart squeal everytime I visit an icecream shop.
We were in for a cold treat to wrap things up and also witness these icy creations up close!
Miss Tam Chiak demonstrated the Christmas Star Indulgence - not as easy as it looks!

Pretty creation!

Christmas Star Indulgence ($10)
Vanilla icecream, kinder bueno, brownie, walnuts, dipped chocolate waffle bowl
A choconutty dessert with enough bite and crunch. Loved the christmas touch added with the creamed christmas tree made on the spot.
Christmas Star Layered Logcake ($58.80)
Salted peanut, red velvet, cool mint, double chocolate icecream
My first logcake for the year and this layered delight brought many oohs and aahs.
A pity that salted peanut and coo mint overshadowed the rest. Otherwise, a worthy alternative to the cake versions.
Available from 14 November to 31 December 2013.
If you have time this festive season, drop by The Star Vista for a joyous time eating and shopping! Nothing beats irresistible promotions too.
From 15 November to 31 December, shoppers stand a chance to win shopping and dining vouchers in their Sure Win Lucky Dip with a minimu $80 spent. Visit Customer Service Counter at Basement 1 for more details!
