Mirror on the wall, who's the bibik of the store?
Buah Keluak Rice ($20)
Meant only for the ayam buah keluak fans, this indulgent number is a heavy carb dish - each grain smothered in buah keluak paste and while no meat was tasted, it was a flavourful dish.
Beef Cheek Rendang ($30)
Tender beef cheeks made this pile of beef rendang so addictive. At 30 buckeroos, this portion is definitely not meant for the faint hearted and while some may wave this off as unauthentic, I loved the balance of spice and coconut.
Grilled Otak ($16)
Texture was a miss but flavour a hit though heavy on coconut. A tad too mushy and lacking in banana leaf fragrance, this was a poor interpretation of Muah's otah but decent enough for the pasty nasi lemak ones.
If anything, this is not the place to head to for authentic peranakan food - modernists apply. Their range of beers look tempting and perhaps I will return for their bar food!
