Located next to Orchard Parade hotel is a hidden ramen shop - well not so hidden but we have walked past it enough times to notice it and wonder if we shop pop by for a ramen fix. And we did when there were only 4 customers in the shop on a rainy Monday evening.
I suppose the rain gives reason to vacant dining premises.
So spick and span and empty.
With a motto with everything as priority and it was still missing out on a cheerfulness of a boisterous ramen shop. Felt more like a one man show in silence actually.
Ramen philosophy.
Ajitama Salad ($10)
Japanese dressing makes any salad taste good and likewise for this, the grilled chashu was a pasty meaty combination.
Gyoza ($6.50)
Normal gyozas...infact, they usually taste the same.
Chashu Uma ($19.50)
Pork flavoured shoyu soup, 4 thick cut flamed chashu
Double the chashu portions, no egg and maybe more noodles - spot the dollop of miso that is also bigger than the usual.
Considered a hot seller with pork flavoured shoyu soup and a thick cut flamed chashu. Notice the blob of miso that probably did zilch to flavour the broth any further. Meekia thin noodles in thick broth with just one slice of chashu. Barely impressed with every spoonful.
And the egg. Looking like a ramen egg without the signature runnyness - looks like the runny eggs that my mom can create straight out of her kitchen! Best part, it tasted just like a boiled egg.
We left wondering - what is the great deal? Not all franchises slapped with a "from Japan" tagline makes good - Bari-Uma is one of those.
