Sunday usually calls for a lazy brunch somewhere. Not much choice in the East so 1-Twenty-Six seemed like a good choice. Reservations were made but the whole place seemed to be under reservation anyway.
Croque Madam ($15)
I love croque monsieur or madam for the cheese and
while it was dripping with cheese and made it absolutely droolsome, it
was purely more bread than ham than anything else. The cheese was the
weakest link here. Hardly the stink or sin that
I would expect from a mindblowing croque madam.
Eggs Benedict ($16)
Amongst the first things that came to mind about
this was the muffins tasting right off the Mcdonald’s Grill. The
hollandaise sauce was clumpy and was hardly inspiring. O-k-a-y at best
and that is about it.
Pancakes ($15)
Hard to resist when pancakes are in the breakfast
menu. Two thick pancakes with the usual berry drizzle. I thought we were
in for a treat, these bread-like bland pancakes were a task to finish,
if there is any comfort the strawberries and
honey were nice.
Immortal Moment ($8)
A hilarious moment when teas with strange sounding
or futuristic sounding names are part of the menu. I do not suppose it
was w-o-w but well, tea on Sunday could do with a touch of drama!
Ayurvedic ($10)
I nearly burst out laughing at its name – hardly
ayurvedic if the intention was to soothe the senses for a calming time.
Just carrot juice, period.
Monster Mojito ($18)
A ripoff despite its size because it turned out to
be more lime juice than the dash of rum thrown in. The friendliest
mojito ever encountered without the cheeks blushing from the alcohol
content.
Aioli Fries ($14)
I remember these being ordinary over post dinner drinks but fries are well, the greatest temptation. Still as ordinary.
We were overcharged for several items that did not
arrive and the staff were the least bit apologetic. A number of items
were “unavailable” at mid day which I find unacceptable, isn’t Sticky
Date a signature? Marred by sloppy service and
average food, a revisit is definitely not high on the list. Now…who
cares about their live band then?
