May Hua Coffee Shop Eats

Just a stone's throw away from the then office, I dashed to chope a seat at the coffee shop and dined there nearly twice a week or at my peak daily for a week.

Italian Cai Png as the companion termed this. There is a selection of 15 dishes and every set comes with garlic bread and soup of the day. Cream of mushroom was pretty decent with bits of ground pepper.

Chorizo

For once, chorizo that wasn’t too salty nor spicy. Decent!

Smoked salmon salad

I didn’t like bones in my smoked salmon. This was surprisingly not over salty too!

Pumpkin

Really sweet pumpkin with the right marinate! Almost as if it was brushed with honey and baked. Awesome consistency.

italian tapas

3 dishes $5.50
5 dishes $7.50

Decent Italian tapas at coffeeshop prices. A welcome find

The cooks either douse their daily brews with heroine or the soups have to be really good for me to head back consecutively for a week to try all their offerings. I would choose to think it is the latter.

I am through and through a Cantonese at heart with this love for soups but most soups are too heavily laden with MSG.

herbal chicken

Herbal Chicken Soup ($4.50)

Awesome punch of herbs and well marinated meat. Fell off the bone so easily but the texture was definitely not mush. My favourite of the variety available!

pig stomach soup

Pig Intestine Soup ($5)

Somewhat gamey, the whole bowl reeked of it and possibly the only one that I did not fancy too much of.

lotus root

Lotus Root Pork Rib Soup ($4)

Just the way my Mom would make it.

radish pork rib

Radish Pork Rib Soup ($4)

Hearty soup with root vegetables and a smaller portion of pork ribs than the lotus root had. Methinks the herbal chicken has the biggest portion of meat as opposed to pork rib.

watercress pork rib

Watercress Pork Rib Soup ($4)

Portions of pork ribs was a lot more generous here and a reasonably green batch of watercress as opposed to the usually overboiled ones.

Beancurd with Sausages ($1)

This was slightly warm and pretty good to go with soup. Cheap sausages and beancurd, absolute cai peng material.

Spicy Long Beans ($1)

A great pity these were cold, decent one.

pig stomach soup

Pig Stomach Soup ($4)

A peppery Bak Kut Teh kind of broth.

grilled chicken chop

Chicken Chop

A cheap alternative to Aston's with portions big enough to satisfy. Juicy chicken chop with a nice portion of veggies.

Amongst the other tantalizing offers in the coffee shop is the neverending queue for Yong Tau Foo and Chicken Curry Noodle which I did not have a chance to attempt...great pity!
