Dempsey Brasserie @ Dempsey

the dempsey brasserie

Dempsey has been out of the radar for quite sometime and on a random note decided to do dinner there one evening. Dempsey Brasserie is located at Block 7, along the stretch of Muthu's Curry and CMPB. There are alfresco and indoor dining options.

Could not resist a posie shot outside the eatery.

Dim lighting makes dining inside really cosy, coupled with a tall as can be ceiling - hints of White Rabbit without the chapel-ish features. Their menu is structured in such a way that the recommended are customer favourites rather than restaurant signatures.

truffle fries

Truffle fries topped with parmesan shavings ($13)

Based on description, resistance is futile. As pungent as the truffle fragrance was when the fries were served, they vanished almost immediately. Subsequent deep sniffing of it could barely detect any! Methinks the truffle oil was drizzled on top of the pile rendering the rest really ordinary fries.

Burger Board ($18)
3 mini prime Angus cheese burgers served with skinny fries

Instead of their Works Burger which consists of a 200gsm Angus Beef Patty and the rest of the burger accompaniments. Three pint sized burgers laced with cheese and a burger patty made its appearance on a chopping board with a pile of fries. The burgers were decent - packed a bite at least! Yet missing out on the beefy taste.

mussels

Mariniere ($20)
shaved fennel, shallots, white wine, cream

Starter Pot is good for sharing with the copious amount of food awaiting us. These signatures are a must try indeed. The waiter recommended Mariniere which was a good choice. Milky tasty broth with simple shaved fennel and shallots that stole the show, nearly. I ended up slurping it up like a soup starter. Loved the fresh mussels too.

bread and frites

This came with fries and a bread loaf too - wish they gave more loaves to go with the gravy.

seabass

Pan-seared seabass ($25)
Grilled asparagus, roasted vine tomatoes, braised leeks and lemon buerre blanc sauce

Crispy skin meets moist fish but one letdown - fishy!

chunky!

Tenderloin 200g ($38)
Australian Grain Fed, aged 120 days (Clara Valley) served with skinny fries, mixed leaf salad and béarnaise sauce

I had it medium and well seared it was. Au naturel without any seasoning which let the flavours shine through, really good!

tenderloin

Tender beef indeed! Bearnaise could do with more robustness but otherwise still good with the tenderloin. Arguably my favourite of the meal.

dessert!

Sticky toffee pudding with vanilla bean ice-cream ($14)

I would like to think that the toffee sauce was way too much for the portion of pudding so much so it appeared drenched and soggy. Pudding was too moist and soft. Vanilla bean icecream was too sweet too.

Varying levels of crispiness and salt levels across the fries which was annoying at some point. While some lacked flavour, others were soggy...disappointing especially when we had so many piles of fries to consume. Food is generally alright, do make the right choices to fully maximise the experience.
