Casa Verde Revisited @ Botanic Gardens

flowers

These festive flowers greeted us at the entrance when I visited almost a month back.

Having the first meal of the day surrounded by greens signals a really good start to Sunday!

The numerous park lovers.

Right at the entrance is Casa Verde.

queues

Replacing their previous concept of ordering from your table is ordering from the counter instead. Brings casual dining to a new low.

tables

Breakfast starts bright and early at Casa Verde at 730am, they are possibly the few brunch places that open that early on weekends! Perfect for church goers like myself who would prefer breakfast early! Casa Verde has gone all casual for breakfast, orders are taken at the counter and served thereafter. Not too sure if I am taking the whole switch to fastfood style ordering too well - having full fledged service without being slapped on service charge is a treat for customers yet going back to no service and not paying for it does take some getting used to.

Breakfast sets comes with freshly squeezed orange juice and coffee or tea.

big breakfast

Western Breakfast ($13.50)
Choice of fried or scrambled eggs, chicken sausages, bacon, grilled tomato, hashbrown and toast

The buttery scrambled eggs were done quite well - for a non-scrambled egg fan, I took to it readily. Chicken sausages were a tad buttery while the rest of it made up for a hearty breakfast. Nothing too extraordinary but it fit the bill of a big breakfast to a T.

toast

A basket of toast to go with it! Peanutbutter would be great for a PBJ sandwich!

orange juice

Freshly squeezed orange juice with pulp.

mee siam

Mee Siam ($8)

Not the best place to eat a dish so local, this was pedestrian at best without the punch of a good chilli paste and overly crunchy crystal prawns.

blueberry danish whole

Blueberry Danish ($3.50)

blueberry danish

Loved the blueberry jam though the danish pastry was slightly dry. Too much of a good thing is still a good thing for this - blueberry jam overload!

pear danish

Pear Danish ($3.50)

Looks like a loaf, this buttery custard pastry was a hit across most tables. Loved the crumble embedded within, as with the delish custard well woven into the layers of pastry. Two thumbs up for bang of the buck and taste!

Crowds start filling up by 9-ish am and unless you are a pet lover, I do suggest seating inside. We spotted quite a number of tables with big dogs including the famed Dulux commercial furry creature! One of the few places to allow pets on premises too, so I guess that makes Casa Verde extra attractive for pet owners.

The main reason why this place is so packed is the price point, especially so when those in the walking vacinity are Halia and Au Jardin. I hear Food For Thought is also around the area! That being said, it is a pleasant change for brunch away from the city.
