Brunetti @ Tanglin Mall

brunetti

Brunetti reminds me of Carlo's Bakery in Cake Boss set in New Jersey or a more mind sparkling version of Cova. From the gelatos to the columns of sweet nothings and finally a panel of savouries, deciding what to get is stressful. Yes, you heard me right. S.T.R.E.S.S.F.U.L. When given too many choices, I end up getting lost in wonderland.

The first visit there was slightly after their brunch hours of 9-12pm so that greatly reduced the savoury options by more than half. I reckon Brunetti specialises in Italian sweets more than savouries judging from their full day menu which is equally restricted. There are miniatures available too for sampling portions. Certainly was not complaining since that gave me the complete liberty to order all the lovely sweets to fill the plates.

Macarons...definitely a must since their bright bursts of colours were so irresistible on the eye.

macarons bitten

Salted Caramel ($2)

I knew I had to get it - salted caramel being salted caramel. Came across as a completely sweet macaron.

Rosewater ($2)

This was mildly sweet with an amazing fragrant aftertaste.

What I did not like about the macarons is their crumbly texture and buttercream fillings, density hugely lacking. No surprises with the fillings either.

Cannolli Vanilla ($2.50)

Crumbly pastry plumped with vanilla cream, was expecting the fried pastry to be crunchy with a bite. In colloquial terms - "lao hong".

canolli

Shortchanged with the emptiness.

cookie2

Boc di Nono ($1.50)

At the insistence of the server, she recommended I tried their cookies in particular this. Marzipan wrapped around a cherry.

Even for a sweet tooth for me, I found this over the top sweet. Would not consider this a cookie or biscuit equivalent.

plate1

Pistachio Bigne ($2.50)

Choux pastry glistened with fondant and plumped with pistachio cream.

vanilla bigne

Though the filling lacked flavour though it made up for it with a green pea coloured thick filling.

For takeaways, consumption is recommended within 4 hours. Brunch hollers...soon!
