Japanese Baumkuchen that found its way into Takashimaya basement and has been causing many ripples - queues! Queue at least 15 minutes before you get hold of one of these highly sought after baumkuchens. Hard feat to repeat of those I attempted in Japan.
With a spongecake base, these are no kueh lapis. Coated with a thin sugary layer which melts off so easily. Lighter in texture though lacking very much in fragrance, these are delish but not quite in the unforgettable manner that would warrant queues of any sort in Japan!

Takashimaya Basement
Hi
ReplyDeleteSaw this outlet at taka too. They are attracting a huge crowd with their windows/ viewing gallery of how they bake it. From your post u it seems to be worth it, but can't compare to Japan??
Thought this is from Europe (Germany)
heyyy...yah! always crowded...it's not bad but the one I had in japan is better..
ReplyDeleteyup, the origins are german. somehow the japanese can replicate nearly everything!
