Mag's Wine Kitchen for an impromptu dinner one day.
A fairly compact eatery that usually needs reservations for lunch. Seats 20 comfortably but leaves little space to manouvre.
The open concept kitchen that allows for live action of your food. While noise control was superb, the same cannot be said of the aroma from the kitchen - one can hardly leave the place without smelling of what you ate.
Daily specials.
House white.
Complimentary basket of bread. Loved the crusty sides of this.
Wagyu Beef Carpaccio
Wagyu or not, I thought it tasted like normal beef carpaccio. Liked the truffle drizzle though this was unevenly flavoured, exceptionally salty at points.
Oven Roast Lamb with Caramelized Shallots and Red Wine Sauce
Roasted a lovely pink, the lamb was incredibly tender. Adored the potato gratin as well, yum!
Chargrilled Kurobuta Pork Loin with Pineapple Salsa
In comparison, the kurobuta pork loin fell flat. No doubt pork has to be thoroughly cooked and the waiter already gave the heads up about it being "100% cooked", I did not think Kurobuta could be this tough. Not a trace of tenderness nor succulence, a great disfavour done to such a good cut. A kitchen mishap, I would term this.
Frozen Nougat
Uninspiring fruit icecream. Hardly, I get wowed by frozen nougat...unless it's by Ember.
Dinner was a cosy affair with hits and misses. Perhaps I should have had a go at the steak options. Mag's Wine Kitchen is a breath of fresh air, reminds me of a private kitchen.
