Belgian cuisine is limited in Singapore with just a handful I can recall...Brussel Sprouts, Oosters and Mussel Guys (in the most reluctanct way ever!). Oosters used to be at Suntec before they called it a day..lo and behold...I stumbled upon them at Far East Square. Fairly filled for a weekday night, it was obvious the diners were there mostly for the belgian beers.
Cosy place.
Ham and Cheese Croquettes
With fried camembert and chicken wings sold out, there was not much to choose from though I wanted to go with Bitterballen (traditionally made of horse meat but they replaced it with beef), I went for the really safe ham and cheese croquettes eventually.
Moules au Vin Blanc ($25, 500gsm)
White wine, celery and carrotsWhat's a belgian meal without their famed mussels and frites? Plump fresh mussels soaking in a peppery broth. Adored picking the root vegetables from the broth...enjoyed that better than the mussels though.
The frites were....miles off from the real stuff. Soggy and limp. If it's any consolation, the dips were good.
Service is okay, food is okay...Oosters is just okay. I couldn't bear to be disappointed with dessert so I skipped waffles which by all means would have been my choice.
