The taitai-girlfriends wanted to head Thai this time for a birthday celebration...and well since it was restaurant week, Patara we headed to! When we waltzed in at 7, the place was empty yet within half an hour, it was packed...talk about timing sometimes! We were given a reserved round table in a cosy corner, felt like eating reunion dinner all over again.
The rest of the bright restaurant.
Intricate designs.
Colourful blooms.
The pals reminisced about their previous good memories of the place and I was totally looking forward.
I thought it would be a 4 course dinner but turned out everything on the menu was included...nice!
Lemongrass iced tea was refreshing but takes quite abit of getting used to. You can adjust the sugar levels with the syrup provided.
My supposed young coconut which was obviously not...barely the sweet and cooling drink I was most looking forward to. Does not help the flesh was tough.

Appetizers
Pomelo salad with roasted coconut and peanut with curried fish cake with carrot salsa
I liked it at first glance, painstakingly extracted pomole sacs tossed in roasted coconut and peanut..loved the coconutty finish and crunch peanut provided...carrot salsa was the feature of this!
Gave the appetizer an awesome tangy and spicy punch...! Though the curried fish cake was pretty regular, the appetizer set the meal off on a right note...delish!
Clear spicy and sour soup with seabass, hot basil and kaffir lime leaves

Clear spicy and sour soup with seabass, hot basil and kaffir lime leaves
I mistook this for tomyum soup. Nonetheless an equally spicy soup with two slivers of fresh sea bass fillets. Kaffir lime leaves provided a lovely sour finish though hot basil caused a riot in the tongue. Still a fan of tomyum soup over this.
Main Courses
Fried prawns in Tamarind sauce
Coated with a light batter, the tamarind sauce made this really palattable...the same way sweet and sour sauce would have whetted the appetite! Pity the prawns were a tad artficial if not it would have been perfect.
Stir fried cod fillet with fresh green peppercorns, wild ginger and chilli
Fresh fillets but what really blew me away was the fried wild ginger shreds, peppercorns and chilli which made this extra delicious.
Green curry chicken with sweet basil and bird chilli
Creamy take on this thai delight, I thought the spice level of this was watered down though. Just alright.
Steamed broccoli with dried scallop sauce
Wholesome dish that proved more chinese than thai.
Black olive fried rice with minced chicken, fresh lime shallots and chilli
Hands and pants downright appetizing! Grains of rice fried in olive oil and tossed in a flurry of colourful ingredients...a bite of roasted minced chicken, a bite of zesty lime shallot and a punch of fiery chilli...I was totally floored.
Desserts
Assorted Thai sweet delicacies and fresh tropical fruits
Red bean kueh and coconut jelly struck a chord while the rest were simply forgettable.
Patara kindly provided a birthday dessert for the birthday babe! Chocolate cake with mangoes..the companions did not finish the cake but the mangoes were juicy slivers.
More than decent food served up at Patara and perhaps my first attempt at fine(r) thai dining...liking it! Off the mind, a string of others like Yhing Thai Palace and Thanying are on the list of to-try next!
