Back at Triple 3..and it was a first for me heading back twice in a short time span (within 3 months). The only buffet I had in between was Aquamarine which had me comparing non-stop. I skipped the notable disappointments from the previous attempt that were still on display;
Dimsum which the company concurred was "mediocre" though the Hongkie actually liked it enough.
Wanton noodles described as "not bad" but do give the dumplings a miss.
I'll do away with the listing of dishes as by and large they were the same apart from some new additions
The consistent favourites
Tempura (Prawn, Fish, Vegetables)
Sushi (California, Mango roll)
Sashimi (Salmon, Tuna, Swordfish)
Seafood
Cheese Selection with dried fruit
Consistency is key and I'm glad, so glad that these retained their standards. I piled up on these whilst the rest went on a sampling fiesta. That saves me alot of indecisiveness and temptation to try knowing which are the stellar ones.
Changes made
Instead of Nasi Campur station, it was replaced with Indian!
Tomato Tandoori Chicken
Lamb Curry
Chick Pea Curry
Briyani
Tomato Tandoori Chicken that was just prawn paste chicken. The others were just alright.
Onion Loaf
Carb heaven though I really should not indulge. Better if these were warm.
Roast Beef with Truffle Sauce
Beef roasted to such tenderness, I was completely bowled over. Three servings later, I was belly happy. I am never a fan of braised meat for its loose texture but this retained the juices, meaty bite and best of all...Triple 3 outshone a couple of steakhouses here. Truffle sauce with it, was pure decadence without being overpowering, I wish and wish real hard this will be available the next time I visit!
Instead of Teppanyaki Japanese, they went Korean this time
Prawns with mushrooms
Bean Sprouts
Beef Bulgolgi
Not as crowded and highly sought after as the previous round, which I understood. The stir frys were not served piping hot, largely attributed to the lack of popularity. Unlike the other visit, the queues were neverending. These were pre-fried and left out. Delicious but not good enough for seconds.
American meatballs
I had a complete IKEA moment with this! Odd adding barley to this dish but that aside, the meatball was minced like IKEA's, the mushroom sauce was drooliciously yummy. They should have thrown in cranberry sauce and roasted potatoes too.
Beef Medallions with Caramelised onions
Beef, seems to be its focus this time around with different methods of cooking. This was braised and for ONCE, I actually do not mind soft meat! This was braised yet not mushy, the tendons were melt in your mouth yummy. I found the caramelised onions a tad sweet though.
Clam and Squid
Not too impressed with soft seafood.
Oriental selection that was passable with toned down homecooked fare of steamed egg with prawns, snow peas and braised chicken.
Icecream selection (Strawberry, Chocolate, Orange, Lime Sorbet, Blueberry Sorbet)
Throw me icecream anyday and I will be a trigger happy lass. My vote goes to Blueberry sorbet this time! Whole blueberries encrusted in the light sorbet, I hecked my lips dyed red from the colouring to even bother. Two helpings of this! Odd rich red colouring when blueberries are supposed to be blue...right?
Orange milky icecream was just ah-alright whilst lime was bitter.
Shooters (Lychee Panna Cotta, Lychee Mint, Pineapple Crumble)
Lychee Mint was the star. Mint Jelly
Nonya kuehs
Only made a move on Kueh Salat and Banana Pukis.
Cake selection (Cheesecake, Pear Tart, Linzer Cake)
Linzer cake and pear tarts were show stoppers in their own right. Swiss Bake and Coffeebean are probably the only two I can recall having Linzer Tortes during christmas. Triple 3's interpretation of these jammy cakes was decent though tart bases somehow bring out the taste better.
Bread and Butter Pudding with Vanilla Sauce
Nothing to scream about.
I guess the thing about repeats (especially for buffets) dimishes the enjoyment by quite a fair bit. Do not get me wrong, the first timers on the table adored it to bits, the same way I was enthralled the first time around. Triple 3 still stands strong with its appetizing spread and is still my favourite buffet place this year, am I ready to take on thirds? Maybe not so soon.

Looks like there is quite a fair bit of changes, is this weekday lunch?
ReplyDeleteQuite surprised Triple 3 ventured into Korean, meatballs and Indian, considering the niche has been the strong Japanese stations.
Yup, it's lunch~ Disappointing for me in fact when they reduced the focus on Jap. Hopefully it's only a "seasonal" showcase and they'd include Jap again.
