Willy Wonka's Dream: Godiva

Godiva, a name so prestiged in the land of Chocolate I thought I once knew. It seems that both online and in Europe itself, Godiva is unfortunately not as high on the pedestal as in Asia. Branding seemed to have found its way to the minds of consumers, mine included. Their range is not as wide as the rest, pretty much similar to those presented online and in their local boutiques as well.

In fact, Godiva, Neuhaus and Leonidas are just three who have made its way over the seas.

Save for this new flavour, White Chocolate Passionfruit Chocolixir (4 €). A supposed Summer release. Chocolates like fashion have their regular releases too; think Autumn-Winter, Spring Summer collections. Passionfruit, as you would realise in the blog entries ahead was THE fruit for Spring.

Described as "refreshing" by the salesgirl, I fell for it. Post purchase dissonance? I had it almost immediately. White chocolate and Passionfruit is perhaps like Rose and Lychee, acquired. The flavours did not quite complement each other in all the frothy sweet and sourness.

Perhaps the chocolate Gods were watching, I tripped and spilt a quart of the remaining onto the cobbled streets. Saved me the trouble, on hindsight. Stick to the chocolates, or the chocolixirs instead.

  1. actually rose and lychee go pretty well together- go try tom's palette lychee rose! I think why godiva's chocolates aren't so popular in europe is cos godiva actually doesn't live up to its claim that it uses only the finest ingredients- vegetable oil *gasp* is one of the ingredients in its chocs!

  3. I used to like chocolixer from Godiva when they use their pralines in the drink. Now they have replaced it with chocolate powder and sauce, there is only word to describe, disappointing...

I don't really fancy Godiva chocolate, I thought Laurent and Jewels are better... Even Darcis is good. Not sure if this is comparable to what you had in Brussels...

  4. yeah! their chocolixirs used to be divine..this is what happens when the brand sells more than the actual product. havent tried darcis but jewel chocolates didn't impress.. :P maybe laurent would? hee..

  5. I thought all the products in Godiva, Singapore are actual products, no?

Jewel's chocolate focus alot more on the flavour so my complain is that they don't have a pure chocolate bonbon like what Laurent has. In both cases, I thought the gauche is very smooth and that the chocolate coating is pretty even and thin...

Darcis is on the sweeter side but the texture and presentation is very refined unlike the bonbons found in Godiva, Singapore.

By the way, is the only rose-lychee confectionery the Pierre Herme's Ispahan?

  6. heh i meant that pple normally buy from godiva more for the branding than the chocolates.. ;)

where's darcis found? do they have a white chocolate selection?

  7. Ah, I agree on that one.

Darcis is opening soon at Marina Bay Sands, I tried some of their pralines some time back and it wasn't too bad, just alittle sweet to my liking.

Oh, my colleague went to France for conference, yea lucky to eat Laduree's macarons... It is a pity Pierre Herme was out of the way... The online reviews are stirring my curiousity.
