Cafe 2000 @ M Hotel

M hotel strikes me as a business hotel given its location mainly. The few attempts made at its culinary offerings were pleasant though not remarkable. Cafe 2000 and its famous Sunday Brunches as well as signature chicken pies were about the only things I knew about it.

A word of advice though, if you need to make a corporate/bulk table (of 20 people) booking like I did, Cafe 2000 insists on a signed confirmation before they reserve your table. For that, I received a couple of phonecalls insisting on a signed confirmation despite my reassuring them of our attendance.

Semi Buffet; order a mains to go along the rest of the appetizer/semi mains/dessert buffet!

Sushi and Sashimi Selection

Decent selection apart from the usual salmon and tuna. Nothing to shout about the sushi though.

Prawns, Crabs, Crayfish

Fresh, fresh, fresh! A slight grouse about the bland crayfish.

Meet the mus(sel)cular folks!

Chicken and Pork Satay
that was obviously fried than grilled.

Breadrolls, nachos with cream cheese dip, salsa, olive

Finally found something that deserves seconds, thirds...and beyond. Nachos are huge cinema comfort food for me, paired with cream cheese dip...I could munch on and on. Loved the sundried tomato bread roll best!

Baked Seafood Teriyaki Chicken

Neither were too outstanding.

Orange Carrot Soup

Carrot outshone orange in this interesting combination. A bit of ginger would've made it heartier.

Grilled Tenderloin (Additional $8)

Accompanied with Arugula salad, Ratatouille and Garlic Mashed Potato and Curry Herb Butter

The mains I ordered. Grilled to such pinkness, I fell in love with the colour. Was slightly depressing to know that curry herb butter was straight off a pack. Despite that, adored the natural flavours of the tender cut.

The garlic mashed potato was stunning though, buttery smooth!

Cheese Platter

The selection was not huge but good enough to nibble on.

Smoked Salmon & Salads

No surprises.
That wraps up the semi-mains spread, limited in my opinion. Not forgetting the live pasta station that was weirdly popular even though the pasta dishes were bland beyond comprehension.

Caramel Pear Cake made it to the hall of "Did the chef mistake sugar for flour?". The layers were delicious, except the sugar was way over the permissible health limits.

Raspberry Mousse Cake

Another of those that disappoints despite the outlook.

Finally I found decency, bite-sized nonya kuehs.

Alright, this baffled me. Apart from the white chocolate art piece, the rest came across as bland coloured cream. The more you taste, the eye brows get scrunched further, failing to decipher what its made of.

Walnut Cheesecake

This left the table clamouring for more but felt it was too rich for comfort.

Durian Pengat

Bitter and rich, every durian addict's dream. A mouthful was suffice for me.

Icecream selection (Coconut, Chocolate, Strawberry, Coffee)

I wonder if milk was even added.

Semi Buffet at M Hotel is a buffet in name, put together those that made an impression and you'll get a 3 course dinner, 4 course at best. Let me have a go at the hypothesized menu;

Bread rolls with dips

Cream of Orange and Carrot Soup

Grilled Tenderloin

Caramel Pear Cake or Selection of Local Kuehs with Durian Pengat
