Border's Bistro @ Border's

Neatly tucked within Border's is Border's Bistro.
It's one of Singapore's earliest bistros...as far as the memory takes me.
Way before there was Cafe J.A.M. at Ion's HarrisPopular Bookstore...
Cafe Dome at Parkway Parade's Borders...
Or MPH's cafe at Shenton Way.

Brunch has been highly recommended here by friends, but dinner was what I had.

Prepare to get your tresses and clothes smelling of the kitchen.

Steak Sandwich, Ciabatta
Juicy grilled ribeye slices, tomatoes, spanish onions and cheese

Medium I requested, but obviously due to the thickness of the steak...it was remotely possible. Nonetheless, it was a tender cut of steak, despite being well done the juices were retained. Ciabatta was exceptionally tasty and survived the test of "soggy", thumbs up for that!

A pizzahut-melted cheese moment, the ingredients are not overly generous like Subway but it's one wholesome sandwich.

Smoked Salmon on Foccacia
Smoked salmon, tomatoes, spanish onions and sour cream

The pal's choice of sandwich. Did not attempt but she left it half finished.

Swordfish with polenta

Polenta baffles me. Made from boiled cornmeal, this was grainy, looked like an omelette but did not taste like one. The friend found swordfish delightful though.

Do not expect top notch service but modest food is served up....I could ignore the kitchen smells to curl up in a corner, book in hand, sandwich on another just to indulge in literary classics.

Brunch and value for money set lunches beckon!
