Mushiya Steamers @ Ion

These steamed cakes hail from Hokkaido, located in a corner of Ion Food Hall. Mushiya's been selling like hotcakes (oh, the pun!) since opening, rivals the takopachi a couple of stalls down.

Fatt kueh at its finest.

It is hard to miss nor ignore with trays of cakes in every possible colour.

Kinako Mochi Kintoki ($4); New Year Season Special
Azuki, Tora-mame, Kintoki-mame, Oteboh-mame

If you guessed right, I went for it because of the "New Year Season Special."

Denser than the familiar fatt kueh with a bouncy texture. Ingredients are limited to the top of the pretty kueh. Largely beans and mochi are used to adorn this new year edition of steamed cake.

One pricey kueh but what at Ion Food Hall isn't?

Daily promo: $7.50 for two.
$5 for two after 1030pm.

  1. i adore huat kuih! wanted to try this out when i was at ion but i somehow forgot... i usually get my huat kuih fix from the neighbourhood Swee Heng bakery, love the coconut milk fragrance of their miniature version that come in packs of 3! it's not available all the time though, but they're always sold on the first day of each lunar month.

  3. have never tried those, will do so next time! their raisin loaf bread is pillowy soft, but the banana walnut version is a waste of money, it's flavored with banana essence and contains barely any nuts. lol...
