The closest to an Indian Rojak has to be 五香, a platter of fried food marinated with 5 spices namely, 花椒, 肉桂, 八角, 丁香, 小茴香. This has to be my next favourite after rojak. Pick the favourites, get them re-fried, tuck in when piping hot..not forgetting to dip in the chilli sauces.
85 Fengshan's stall is particularly outstanding in all aspects.
Fritters are well fried..think crispy pillowy beancurd, fishcakes, prawn rolls and stuffed sausages. Not a drop of oil out of place place. Remnants of oil blobs after eating is always a major turn off.
Sauces so dip-worthy! Like salsa is to tortilla chips, the dips are crucial. There are two to dip in, the cherry-coloured had a tau suan starchy consistency. The chilli paste had the right spicyness and punch. Lovely. I felt satisfied.
If there's an Asian equivalent to appetizers, my vote goes to these fritters!
