J's Cafe @ Changshu, Jiangsu

Rise and shine to a hearty breakfast at J's Cafe within the Hotel. By now you'd have gotten an inkling of how much I would prefer a chinese takeaway breakfast rather than the touristy kind. After the breakfast in Shanghai, I re-adjusted my expectations accordingly and would be grateful if I found something yummy.

Steamed root vegetables are getting a common sight in China. I found the sweet potato ordinary.
Cured eel that was expectantly salty.
Maple Syrup pancakes for the Intercontinental palette.

Once again, I gave into the "chinese breakfast" items consisting of paus. Preserved vegetable, red bean and yam. I actually returned for seconds of the sweet paus.

Thrilled to find soya bean milk and fried doughsticks! Major disappointment for this one. Milk was too thin, dough sticks was clumpy.

Chinese salad! Refreshing threads of cucumber and radish with a tangy sauce and sauteed shrimps, delicious!

Normal fried bacon and springrolls.

Crispy croissants with dishes of peanut butter, simple yet well baked.

Once again, the spread of baked goods brought mega smiles to my face. It seems that the hotels that I stayed in managed to nail the baked items quite well but have missed the mark for the rest of the dishes. Fried donut, blueberry pastry, danish and banana cake were all too good to leave untouched.

Banana cake and chips! The cake was so moist and fragrant..

The seasonal fruits.
