Dempsey has a certain charm that supercedes the rest of the outlets. I've only been to P.S. at Dempsey and Paragon and of the two, I'm already loving Dempsey's more. Certainly, a price has to be paid for such a love affair. Walk the path of rickety hole-ly wooden planks that threaten to de-heel my favourite satin heels and you're at the entrance of the restaurant.
The second time back at the Dempsey outlet, the whole glasshouse concept gives this place a romantic edge.
Table outside, facing the orchard.
Peep above and be greeted by a canopy of greens.
PS. Fish & Chips ($26)
Tempura battered fish fillets, chunky fries, coz & veggie sticks served with homemade tartar sauce & kaffir lime aioli
Three battered fillets in a bucket full of fries is what this dish is all about. The fillets were firm fleshy bites, I just did not get the hefty price tag that came with it. Not such a great fuss, honestly. The kaffir lime aioli dip was not my idea of delicious though. Chunky fries were memorable though, crispy on the outside and mushy within.
Beef, Mushroom & Bacon Ragout ($26)
Hearty stew of beef, bacon & mushrooms, glazed baby vegetables and homemade toasted walnut brioche
The naming conventions of dishes confuse me quite a bit. Ragout and stews, are they the same? It's more confusing when the restaurant uses it interchangeably; read ragout (hearty stew). Seems like nobody has been able to give a proper differentiation, some say ragout is thinner than stew, while Wiki says ragout refers to a maindish stew.
An overload of sodium, the stew was mostly mushrooms and beef chunks. The toasted thick walnut brioche was a welcome find in the pot of stew, the coarse texture of the thick toast with wholesome nuts was delicious. I ended up breaking the toast up and soaking them in sinful tartar sauce.
Banana Mango Crumble ($12.90) served with vanilla ice cream
Not quite a favourite, the crumble was done nicely but the banana mango combination was plain "blah", both end up in a warm soggy fibrous mass beneath the crumble. This fruit combination did not work for me.
Ambience works for this place, but the crowds causes it to lose the slight appeal. Service is moderate though it would be good if I didn't have to wave fanatically to get anyone's attention.
