ROM Dinner @ Pioneer Spring Restaurant

My first ROM of the year! Getting pretty regular these days...congratulations to the first of the Uni pack to get hitched! *throws confetti* A hidden restaurant at Safra Mount Faber.

Overlooking the swimming pool...

And karaoke too..but mostly oldies.. somehow that set the dinner on a really nostalgic-back in time note, songs of Jeff Chang were played..and he appeared in hairstyles that I've never seen before. Early 90's?

Condiments...we were probably all too ravenous, the steamed peanuts tasted better than they should.

Pioneer Spring Five Combination Platter

The best of the lot has to be the fried tofu coated with seaweed. Jelly fish, topshell, prawn salad, fried seaweed roll...ordinary stuff.

Braised Shark's Fin Soup with Crabmeat and Diced Asparagus

Thick and gooey, the shark's fin pieces couldn't save it. My first bowl of shark's fin that has chopped caixin scatterd all over, no doubt gave the soup an added crunch but did nothing to the taste though.

Steamed Seabass in Pioneer Nonya Assam Sauce

Interesting take, pretty appetizing in fact. The meat was firm and fresh.

Prawn Fillets with Macadamia nuts in Orange Sauce

My favourite of the lot! The orange didn't overwhelm the fresh succulent prawns. I'm surprised by the combination and I loved it! Surprised that orange can be such a great accompaniment.

Roast Chicken with Fresh Mango

The fresh mango slices gave this chicken dish a refreshing taste. Chicken was soft. I guess that's the downside of eating mainly kampung chicken.

Soft Shell Crabs with Butter and Herbs

Oily and too heavy on the batter.

Seafood Fried Rice

Bland though the prawns were fresh and they were visible! I dislike how some places mince the prawns or meat and you end up not seeing any of that. The rice was dry and tasted overfried.

Chilled Fresh Mango juice with Pomelo and Sago

The pomelo was bitter, juice was thick..just o-k-a-y.

Kudos to the restaurant for presenting their take on favourites like wasabi prawns, roast chicken...we were served by chinese waitresses, prompt and swift. It's one of those dinners that ended within one an a half hours. It could be because we were the only ones in the restaurant!
