Cake @ BreadTalk 2

My favourite cake from BreadTalk has to be Macha Macha, a green tea spongecake with azuki bean cream filling. Courtesy of a supplier, I had them for tea one day! The fluffy sponge and whole red bean-cream filling is very light on the palette, perfect for tea without having to suffer the repercussions of a treat post-lunch.

It originally started off without any of the fanciful green tea macarons or maple leaf shaped white chocolates. The macarons are...definitely the worst I ever popped into my mouth. Overly sweet and nothing but a crumbly ball of sugar. The white chocolates are at least decent. Sometimes, less is more.

  1. I have not yet tried BreadTalk Macha Macha since they don't sell it in sliced... but I have to admit that they have one of the nicest matcha swiss roll, be it the one from BreadTalk or the long loaf from BreadTalk sliver... The taste of Matcha is pretty strong and is not overly sweet... Just like how you describe for their Macha Macha...

As for macarons, looks like you are the 5th person I have come across to claim those to be the worst... but they do look good, I dunno why the taste can turn out like that...

  2. I tried it another time after this post and there seems to be a drop in standard. The sponge is stiffer and not as light anymore. :( I hope it's a once off blunder by the kitchen!

Exactly, they pulled off the "looks" of the macaron quite well but the taste totally fails it.
