~Invited Session~
Guzman Y Gomez has been around for yonks and every lunch time in Tanjong Pagar is usually such a grab and go affair, I probably only dined there just once and never made it to their Raffles Place outlet. Weekends are the best time to visit albeit equally busy affairs, we scored a table at least. Not quite the friendliest place with a toddler in tow but all the loud kitchen noises entertained him quite a bit.
Orders are taken, number cards given and then you are treated to a buffet of condiments (quite nearly). There are red onions, coriander, salsa and habenero to complete your meals.
This was how my meal looked like before I even got down to tearing each apart - totally savage. Meant for four, we were clearly overly stuffed by the end.
Burrito Bowls ($10.90)
Rice, Jack Cheese, Vegetarian Black Beans, Salsa, GYG's Corn Chips
Grilled Chicken
Nachos ($13.50)
GYG's Corn Chips, Melted Jack Cheese, Vegetarian Black Beans, Salsa, Guacamole
Grilled Chicken Spicy
These house made chips are unlike the store bought ones with a ton of MSG, these are pasty and almost bland but nobody's complaining when it comes with a mountain of tasty ingredients. This would double up as a meal on its own than just an appetizer for sharing.
Tacos (3 for $11.50)
Grilled Steak, Pan Seared Barramundi, Slow Roasted Pork
I opted for soft shell tacos and had a go at three different fillings. Each were hearty and wholesome and I ended up liking all three varieties.
Enchilada ($14.90)
Pan Seared Barramundi
This is what happens to an Enchilada when a Singaporean dresses it with condiments. Even then, this was cray cray yummy.
This deep fried carivorous spring roll resonated with me. Especially the blanket of cheese that made everything taste good. Head for this only if you have a man-ppetite!
Once again in the face of beef and fish, it was tough picking a clear favourite.
Churros ($3.95)
Chocolate Dipping Sauce
Best fast food churros alive, I kid you not when some restaurants do not even do these churros justice. Fried but not oily, chewy but not doughy and I love that coat of cinnamon sugar and also a bitter sweet chocolate sauce to go. Most underrated item on the menu and two, is not enough. I'm hollering must order already!
Guzman definitely lives up to its hearty Mexican tag and we will be back to take on those crowds soon enough! Service is chop chop curry pok so fast and leisurely diners are not entertained. (Only over weekends)
Jarritos ($4) are a must every Mexican meal. These sodas do make the meal taste heaps better and they come in so many flavours!
I went, ate and over ate but am ready to take on another of these any time soon!
