relish

Once upon a time on Mount Emily there was Wild Rocket and then Relish at Bukit Timah. We found our way to Serangoon’s myVillage for dinner one weekday night just for Relish by Wild Rocket and the restaurant was packed. So packed that I was ignored at the door despite having a reservation and had my queue cut by a random couple who simply walked in and sat themselves down. Food took almost forever to arrive with diners that arrived after us getting their food earlier.

spam fries

Spam Fries with Lime Mayo ($8.50)

They emptied the can of luncheon meat and deepfried the pieces. Perfect with nasi lemak perhaps but there was hardly any ingenuity that went into it. Example of creativity – link to Sauce’s post.

mushroom soup

Home-styled Mushroom Cream Soup ($8.80)
Swiss button, shitake, truffle oil

Slightly watered down, the mushroom soup was forgettable to begin with.

salad

Classic Caesar Salad ($10.90)
Secret anchovy sauce, “cooked just right” eggs, bacon

I fell in love with the secret anchovy sauce that they had, a tangy sesame sauce with a secret ingredient. It could be the hunger but I found this exceptionally delish.

swiss beef

Burger Bench and Bar ($16.40)
Mixed sautéed mushrooms, cheese beef burger

innards

A heartier version of Burger King’s mushroom swiss with mushrooms bursting with flavor.

william pears

Blue Cheese and William Pear Burger ($18.80)
Walnut peanut butter, bleu Auvergne, arugula, poached pear

I got more distracted with the peanut butter and pears to take notice of the almost indiscernible blue cheese. The beef patty was long forgotten in the flurry of flavours.

It is a pity that the burgers are not their forte despite a really strong start. Service was hit and miss - as much as the servers were trying really hard, the crowds were still too hot for them to handle.
