Tippling Club @ Tanjong Pagar Road

Tippling Club has found a new home at Tanjong Pagar Street, replacing the vegetarian restaurant. We made bookings for a leisurely lunch which ended up hurried because of tight schedules. I've never been to the previous outlet at Dempsey so then this was a completely new experience for me.

The interior with artistic touches with pieces like the above.

Napkin with their logo emblazoned.

Still amused by their expandable wet napkin.

I was already enamoured over the cutlery used, not your ordinary cutlery but those with a perfect ergonomic grip as we made it through the courses.

This is one restaurant that serves up a series of snacks to replace the good old boring bread basket and butter.

First up was Tippling Club’s take on Singapore’s Curry with rice pops. The question to ask then, what is a defining "Singapore's Curry", I can only think of Indian Curry or Peranakan.

Looking completely like baby food, I found it meant for the faint hearted with nary a trace of spice nor heat, it was just cream curry and crispy rice in a pureed form.

Smoked and charred peppers with a soy paste, this was an interesting dish and a more interesting way to eat with a scapel.

Admittedly, I am not great with a scapel on one and a camera on the other hence the fallen peppers. This was a visual tease and oral treat, loved the presentation and flavours.

Tomato water with basil served in a test tube to be sipped up and acted as a palette cleanser. Nothing too memorable of this concoction.

Kingfish Carpaccio
Black radish, yuzu, avocado

Particularly enjoyed the clever combination of flavours.

Iberico Pork Belly
White bean cassoulet, confit tomato, wild herbs

Three pan fried pieces of pork and a cassoulet to pair, none too extraordinary.

Roasted Barramundi
Braised quinoa, baby beets, red wine emulsion

Fresh fish meets a whole truckload of other ingredients that made it pretty to see and not so pretty to eat.

Pear Tart 2014

Deconstructed pear tart with a pear gellee caramel icecream and pastry bits.

Novel perhaps to have the icecream presented this way but that pretty much summed it up.

Coconut Aero
Valrhona chocolate ganache

Unpretty to photograph even, this pretty much tasted like a cross between meringue and cotton candy with chocolate powder.

Watching the kitchen action is always exciting, the frustrating part is thinking that the next dish is yours and it is not.

3 courses and $57 later, I missed out on the petit fours of chocolate coated marshmallow pop, mini apple donut and truffle. Dang, it may have been but the companion says nothing missed. Quite an underwhelming experience for me with all the accolades piled onto them.
