Table 24 @ Temple Street

Table 24 says they do “unpretentious take on fine dining”, a tall order for us to be piqued to try out. 3 course set dinner for $45++ seems quite a decent deal.

Shelves with so many pieces of memorabilia from the past that it could very well be a wall of memories for anyone.

I remember using these when I was much younger.

Toasty bread slices with butter to start the meal.

Then water table crackers with cheese, nothing special and really homemade.

Hokkaido Scallops
Bacon jam, Vidalia, kiwi, grits

Scallops were bouncy and the rest of it went by forgettably.

Hamachi Tartare
Quail egg, purple tater chips, panzu

This turned out to be a salad with hamachi cubes, lacking in some oomph that a tartare could pull off.

Crunchy bites!

8oz Grassfed Angus Hangar
“Joe’s bbq”, iceberg, bleu d’avergne, pancetta, walnuts

Yet another forgettable dish with our beef over cooked, my medium came mostly well done and the salad looked tired. The only saving grace was, the steak was not over marinated.

Jumbo Crab Cake
Blue swimmer crab, choron, remoulade, root veg hash

I am in favour of the portions which makes this value for money but it lacked some flavour.

No amount of cajoling could get the yolk to flow.

Sablefish
Canneli hummus, purple carrot, black tahini, cilantro vinaigrette

I did not taste but it was not great, apparently.

Bailey’s Cheesecake
Graham crust, bitter chocolate, strawberry gelee

Red Velvet
Grand marnier, Madagascar vanilla bean, berries

S’mores
Marshmallow, graham, macademia, raspberry, chocolate ganache

Dessert Cheese
Chef’s selection of 3 cheeses, marmalade, rosemary almonds, crackers

One forgettable meal with more misses than hits, unpretentious take yes but definitely not on fine dining.
