Backerei Stockli Cafe @ Montag 16, Engelberg

The brochure promised a trip to the monastry, church and cheese factory and proved to be quite a hoax. Thank goodness in this sleepy town we managed to find a cafe to while away the 3 hours which we were allowed to roam around.

Most occupants in the sleepy town were there to ski, hardly any were there for the monastry.

The misleading monastry with a cheese factory that was a big as a small time chocolate store. We chanced upon the only cafe in the area and decided to spend the rest of the afternoon there.

Looking all bright and cheery.

Do drop by if you are in the vicinity!

A non refillable salad bar that applies to both the diner and the restaurant.

A snap of the bar.

The desserts that also tempted.

Salatteller Klein (8.50 CHF)

The pile that probably wiped the salad bar of its day's supplies.

Pizzawahen (5.2 CHF)

I'd call this pizza bread more than just pizza.

A more charred version with onions and ham.

Poulettaschen (8.5 CHF)

I could barely resist this heavyweight. Stuffed with chicken breast and baked, it was a hearty delight of protein.

Chicken versus pastry was an imbalanced 80-20.

Schnitzelbrot (6.8 CHF)

Sandwiches for the unadventurous.

Wurstli Im Teig (4.5 CHF)

Sausage pastry, nothing too fabulous but it was acceptable!

Pfaffenhutte (2.5 CHF)

It was probably the shape that made this interesting. Almond filling that was dense, thick and somewhat sticky.

Cookies (4.80 CHF)

I would not be able to tell the difference between American and Swiss cookies. These were sweeter, denser and very festive.

I cannot comment too much on Engelberg since we barely saw much of the sleepy town, was frozen most of the time and ate too much at the cafe. It would not be a surprise if this was just a franchise.
